Carefully coaxed

We’re different—
We get to make
Different mistakes—
Not the same ones!!!

Dusk descends
And my neighbor’s
Solar lights
Shine through
The rose bushes
Like giant fireflies
Silently glimmering

Sometimes
It’s like
Walking through quicksand
To get through the day.
Why is that?

First violet—
I can’t believe
That in
The onslaught
Of winter
I see
The first sign
Of spring.

Today
I feel connected.
Why don’t I feel
That way
Every day?
Maybe it has
Something to do
With sleep…

And I thought
I was
The only one
Who felt
Like King Kong
One day
And tiny
And timid
The next.
Once you talk
To people
You find out
We all
Feel that way…

I’m a
Long distance runner—
Not a sprinter.
So when it comes
To projects
I need a sprinter
On my team—
Otherwise
I never start
And I never finish.
Which are you?
A sprinter?
Or a marathon
Runner?

In a time
When children
Move away
Lives are uprooted,
Fractured,
I feel very lucky
To have roots—
Memories
Imprinted
On my soul.
A place
To come home to
(back to)
Again and again,
Where events past
Are etched
In my mind
In my heart.
How could I ever
Sell this place?
My home?
When it provides the
Wealth
Richness
Depth of my spirit?
All I have to do
Is show up there
And listen
And I can feel
My whole life
Inside me.
