Do we have fun with fabric!
Recently, we had a leftover fabric give-away in the office! Mind you, this fabric will go into future C&T projects, but that doesn’t spoil the fun; it’s what I love about work. Did I say “work”? This was pure pleasure. Any dyed-in-the-wool fabric-holic knows what I’m talking about. We may not know for sure what project the fabric’s going in but that doesn’t mean we don’t need that fabric!
About 20 of us gathered around a table lined with fabrics, and (Continue Reading...)
Finally getting this top quilted
A bit ago, I blogged about having a few UFOs. Most of them are waiting for borders. Well, I’ve decided to forgo additional borders on this one and have it quilted as is. Ruthmary in Sales and Marketing is going to long-arm quilt it for me. Hooray – one UFO down!
My inspiration for this Ohio Star came from Piecing the Piece O’ Cake Way by Becky Goldsmith and Linda Jenkins.

Asilomar was Fantastic
Imagine a week of sewing each day for as long as you like. A week with all your meals prepared for you. A week among like-minded people who quickly become your friends. A week of sea breezes, ocean views, beach walks, and spectacular sunsets. That’s a week at an Empty Spools Seminar at Asilomar in Pacific Grove, California.
I went in April this year and had a better time than I can say. There was a little trepidation on my part; (Continue Reading...)
I’ve crossed over to the other side
My chorus was making a scrapbook for our retiring director. A page was requested from each of us. Augh! I’m a quilter – I’ve never worked with paper. What to do, what to do…hmmmm. Most of my friends were using photos as the foundation of their page. But I’m a relatively new chorus member and don’t have any photos of us yet. Hmmmm…what to do, what to do. I finally remembered my daughters’ 5th grade name acrostic projects. The teacher (Continue Reading...)
Dresden Plates Rock
I love Dresden plates, always have. Something about the symmetry appeals to me. I’d been planning to make one out of batiks since a shop hop two years ago. (Yes -two years! Actually, it might be three. . . .) At each shop on the hop, I purchased 3/8 yard of a batik or two or three. So I’ve a nice collection. When I got a chance to work on Anelie Belden’s new book Thoroughly Modern Dresden, I was excited (Continue Reading...)
What’s in YOUR cube?
Do any of you work in cubicles like a lot of us here at C&T? It’s always interesting to see what people choose to “post” on their cube walls. Wilderness scenes, maps, quilts (of course), stuffed animals, comics . . . .
Inside mine is a conglomeration of stuff. I’ve got two plants. (One of which I just noticed is dead and needs replacing-oops.) There are also pictures of family and friends, shells, a stuffed kitty with a pink nose (Continue Reading...)
Speaking of Ruth McDowell…
A few days ago, Lynn Koolish mentioned Ruth McDowell in her post. Lynn used some of the Ruth’s techniques to make the quilt, Silk Shibori. I took a class from Lynn at The Cotton Patch in Lafayette, and I’m currently finishing my own “Ruth quilt.” It’s an iris from Ruth’s book Pieced Flowers (which is currently out of print, but you can find here on Amazon).
As you can see from the photo, I found several purples that blended and used (Continue Reading...)
