Renegade Craft Fair, San Francisco
I had a fantastic time at the Renegade Craft Fair at Fort Mason in San Francisco this weekend! As always, I can’t share some of the super super cool stuff, but I do have a few great ideas I can share:
My photo isn’t as great as her creations so check Sasha Bell’s jewelry (below) out on her Etsy site. Our Design Manager saw these on Etsy last week and both of us are hoping that our husbands are reading the (Continue Reading...)
Garage Sale Find: Ondori Needlework Books
Hurrah! I found these six needlework titles from the Japanese publisher Ondori.
They still publish a lot of fabulous books within the fiber arts category and all of these ones from the 70s have the classic Japanese attention to detail:
And I just love this spread–it’s called ‘Our Neighborhood’. Wouldn’t you love to have neighbors like this?!

Advice from Acquisitions: Part 4
As part of an ongoing series on the acquisitions process, I am going to talk a little bit about the money. I stress that every publisher works differently in this regard but there are a few things that are true of all of us:
When most people see that there is a book selling for $25 they think that the author is getting a big chunk of that. The reality is that the money an author sees is depends on (Continue Reading...)
Garage Sale Find: Stumpwork
I found these two books for $1 on the subject of stumpwork. It’s a fascinating read as I hadn’t heard of it before. Let me know if anyone else out there is doing modern stumpwork…I’d love to see it.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar
Hurrah-I finished a quilt top! I have been hanging onto this Andover fabric of the Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar for a few months now waiting for a pattern to come to me that would showcase the fabrics. Then I saw this project from Elizabeth at Oh Fransson! and, although mine looks nothing like it, she inspired the stacked coin type of look for this. I combined some gingham from the American Jane collection a few years back that (Continue Reading...)
Advice from Acquisitions: Part 3
As part of an ongoing series on the acquisitions process, I am including the two biggest issues regarding what you can expect from the publishing process so that you can choose the right time in your career to begin the submission process.
Writing a book takes about a year of your life. And it is a lot of work. C&T is very collaborative in their approach with first time authors with lots of little milestones in between so that it’s not (Continue Reading...)
Garage Sale Find: Clock
OK…not sewing related, but still this has got to be a highlight as my husband and I are clock collectors:

Advice from Acquisitions: Part 2
I recently did a virtual lab for Etsy on the subject of getting a craft book published. I had already started a series of postings talking about the acquisitions process so, I’m using my notes from the lecture to highlight what are hopefully useful tips. In my first post, I encouraged people to try and put the negative thoughts aside that may prevent you from submitting a proposal in the first place. But perhaps you aren’t even there yet and (Continue Reading...)
Garage Sale Find: Fabric
Not too much this weekend. I found some fabric from a gal who used to make burp cloths for boutiques until she had her third child and time was no longer her own. All three for $.50.
I also had the chance to make a couple of projects for an upcoming birthday party for a smashing little 2 year old. As I have two boys, I take great comfort in probably never having to accommodate the unlikely insistence upon (Continue Reading...)
Embroidery Marathon
So, I have been doing a bit of embroidery lately. I have to say, that I feel like I am cheating on my sewing machine. I began my love of all things fabric and thread by taking a summer class when I was 8 and then progressing into cross stitch. When I got into quilting, I left all of that behind, so it has been nice to enjoy these projects:
I made this from a fantastic Orange Flower Tutorial and gave (Continue Reading...)
