One of the fun things we do in the office is celebrate birthdays on the last Friday of every month. At some point around lunchtime, the yummy treats come out and we gather around, wishing everyone happy birthdays. I think today’s treats were my favorite….cupcakes with Disney Princesses and Dora the Explorer rings! (The funny part was hearing all us grownups debating over which Princess we wanted. I snagged a Snow White…hehe!)
A few months ago, Alex Anderson stopped by to make a video of her upcoming 4-in-1 Essential Sewing Tool. It’s not unusual for authors to stop by, but I wasn’t expecting to see Alex zipping through the halls with our resident camerawoman on her heels. That lady is full of energy!
Here’s the final video with a sneak peak at Alex’s new tool.
Designer and illustrator Erin Jang created this darling little book for her nephew’s 100-day-old birthday. (His nickname is “Baloo.”) She and her husband wrote a little rhyming story and then Erin illustrated it. She printed each page on adhesive label paper before adhering it to an 8″ x 8″ blank board book. How sweet is that!? I think I may have to do something similar for my little nephews.
The exhibit will be up until September 13, so if you have a chance to get over there, I highly suggest you take it. There’s really nothing like seeing Paula’s quilts up close.
Here’s an example of her workmanship. These photos were used for the notecard set. The cards are round with quilt tops on front and the underside of the quilts on the back.
Congratulations to Carol who won last week’s giveaway. She’s getting a blank canvas book and some paints and goodies to create her very own masterpiece. Enjoy!
Well, the randomizer has been run, and we’ve got a winner for our February Design Challenge. Congratulations, Kim! We’re putting together $100 worth of C&T goodies to send your way. Enjoy!
Thank you so much to everyone who participated. We’ll post our March Design Challenge within a few days, but to give you a clue…what’s sweet and rhymes with “schmupcakes”? Hmmm…..
Congratulations to Jake Linfesty for winning last week’s free book giveaway!
Jake is my 10 year old son who has started sewing a lot with me. He is very creative in his placement of fabric. He can amazingly use the tiniest pieces of fabric and it looks great. He writes about his three cats, he draws them constantly, he is forever making tiny little blankets and quilts so that his cats will be as comfortable as himself. This is definitely a book that has peaked his interest. – Jake’s Mom
One of my favorite things about my job at C&T is that when quilts come in to be photographed, a lot of them go through my hands. We do our best to translate the amazing craftsmanship of our author’s artwork through photography, but let me tell you, there’s nothing like seeing the details up close.
Terrie Sandelin’s miniature quilts are a good example. They’re teeny tiny! Seeing all those precise little points makes you think that it must have been a headache to piece…but no. Once she perfected her mini-making method, Terrie became (I quote), “a lean, mean, mini making machine.” You can learn all about it in her book, Miniatures in Minutes, that was released last month.
Terrie has been posting a free pattern a month on her website, and this month she’s offering the most adorable Valentine’s Quilt, using her 13-Square Foundation from her book. The nice thing about Terrie’s quilts is that they only take a few hours to make, partly because they’re little, and partly because she uses a great piecing technique (adapted from Anita Grossman Solomon’s Fold and Sew Method). So, if you’re looking to make a last-minute Valentine’s project *cough* this may be your answer!
C&T Publishing is a group of quilters and crafters dedicated to publishing products tailored to our audience. This blog is where we break away from book schedules and marketing campaigns to focus on what drives us to be creative and how this creativity manifests itself in our every day lives.
