“Why did you write the book?”
People were often wondering if I had elves in my studio working as I get so much accomplished. I started 15minutesplay as a way to share my creative process. The book, 15 Minutes of Play, is an extension to the website, giving a clear picture how to start from nothing and build a quilt organically, into something that is completely your own design.
“What can you ‘really’ do in 15 minutes?”
I am an artsy person who needs to create daily. When I became a mother, and I had little time for myself, I had to find a new way to fulfill my “need to create”, in just 15 minutes. I started producing a useable piece of FABRIC, just a 6″ square, as it was all I could do in that amount of time.
I found that two things happened by doing this exercise: One, I was completely satisfied creatively for the day, and two: That 15 minutes of play, was keeping me connected daily, to my creative process. There is no disconnect like there is when I sit and sew for 3 hours, then come back to it a week later, and have to build that momentum up all over again… We waste valuable creative time, getting back to that flow we were in. So, if I exercise that PLAY daily, I can get an exceptional amount more work done.
“What is your favorite project?”
“Crown of Thorns” is probably one of my favorites. The central part of the quilt had been a UFO, (Unfinished project) that I had put away waiting for a bright idea to come bounce a long. When I feel like my ideas have run out, I focus plainly on, “What do I like?” Stripes in general, are a favorite, so cutting up all my stripes to MAKE FABRIC, was a simple, fabulous, answer to finishing this quilt. The unexpected movement in the border, makes the whole quilt, say, WOW! It is discoveries like that, that make the process of creating so fulfilling for me. Pure JOY!

All I have these days are little bits of time–I need to get better at using them! On that note, leaving the computer and heading to the sewing room!
I have tried her method and it really works. Even if you can only sew 2 little seams it keeps you going on a daily basis. I’d love the book.
I’ve been watching Victoria’s blog for a while now. She was the inspiration for a mini that I donated to AAQI! I would love to win this book and have even more of her inspiration!
Have been sewing since I was 7. However, just recently the quilting bug has bit and I really like the unique twist to traditional patterns Victoria creates. Would definitely like a copy of her book as my first quilt book!
