Carol Doak has put together the perfect tools to bring quilters and cardmakers together…her new book, 50 Little Paper-Pieced Blocks, is filled with adorable, perfectly-pieced 3″ quilt blocks in a variety of themes including stars, hearts, flowers, a birthday cake…even crayons, an airplane, and a candlestick!
This book is also a great intro to paper piecing for those of us (ok so maybe it’s just me) who have been a little afraid to try.
Once you’ve made all your favorite designs from the book, you can tuck them into Carol Doak’s Keepsake Frame Cards and mail them off to friends and family. The card stock is handmade and really lovely…definitely works as a mini art frame too, to display the blocks that you want to keep for yourself. If you’re not into cardmaking, you can mix and match the blocks to make table linens, wall quilts, pillows, or just about any cute fabric accessory.
Click here for a few FREE block patterns from the book, just to whet your paper-piecing appetite.
One lucky person will win a copy of 50 Little Paper-Pieced Blocks, PLUS a pack of Carol Doak’s Keepsake Frame Cards! To enter, leave a comment telling us about the nicest greeting card you ever received.
Comments will be closed at 6:00 pm PST on Sunday, November 6, 2011—the winner will be contacted via email and their name will be posted here on the blog next week.

The nicest greeting card I got was in my dreams for Valentines Day this year from my Sweet Mother who passed away last year!!! It was signed by her in her handwriting….when I asked the man who gave it to me how he got it….he told me he had strict instructions to make sure I got it this year!!! I cried in my sleep and was crying when I woke up too!!! I will never forget that dream…..

from my husband…. need I say more? He’s a real romantic;-)
I love Carol Doaks patterns. I hope I win.
It would have to be the birthday card from my daughter and son-in-law who live in Taiwan telling me how much they wished I had a wonderful birthday and they were thinking of me on my day even though they could not be with me.
The best card is the one your not expecting, when it says HELLO, I was just thinking of you. That reminds me, I need to find my box of cards, it is time to send some out to my unsuspecting friends.
The nicest card I ever received was from my son when he was about 5yrs old. It was the first card he made for me totally all by himself and it was beautiful… and it totally expressed his love for me, which is what cards should be – handmade and from the heart.
LOVE ALL MY HUSBAND’S CARDS!
THANKS FOR SHARING!
Love this!!!! Quilting and scrapbooking combined!!!!! Thanks for sharing!
My best card was for my birthday this year I received a card in the mail from my bestfriends mom and when I went over to his house I took it to show him how pretty it was and before I could give it to him he handed me a card from him. When I opened the card I just started laughing it was the same card that his mom had sent me from Ohio I was just so proud because they both thought of me as such a special person that even 1300 miles apart the sentiments were the same. Oh and the cards were purple, I am a purple freak!
I liked on Amazon and shared on FB, plus I already subscribe to all the other items for extra entries.
I love paper piecing and have all the rest of Carol’s books. Can hardly wait to get my hands on this one!! For those who are afraid – this looks like a good way to start. Carol’s directions are really good and easy to follow.
I want to paper piece. the only time I tried, it was kind of a disaster.

SEW BEAUTIFUL!!! Just can’t get the hang of paper piecing, glad someone else can!!!
A hand beaded card of Asian symbol for Harmony. My friend made it for me ‘just because’.
That’s an easy one. When my son was 5, he got me a birthday card that said “Happy Birthday 8-Year Old” totally believing that Mommy was 3 years older than him. To this day, that’s what he’ll still answer, and he’s 37!

A homemade mother’s day card from my son was the best card I’ve received.
My sister is an artist and has made wonderful cards over the years. My favorite is the anniversary card featuring a tacky tourist couple.

i think the nicest card i have recived was from a quilter thanking me for supporting her in her quilting. i had to tell HER how much she supported ME. she died a few years ago and i really miss her.
I really like getting and sending the Smile Box greetings. My sister made some of the most beautiful torn paper cards. Wish I could enclose a picture.
The nicest card I ever received? I recently received one from my 17-year old son who has had a rough year- well, I guess I have had a rough year due to him. He gave me the most thoughtful card “just because” and wrote a very heartfelt message inside. Maybe I’m doing something right :)
I liked you on Facebook
and I liked the book on Amazon- I really do like it too- looks very interesting
I Love Carol’s Doak’s work and would love to win the cards so that I could SEND the “best card someone ever got” to a special friend!! The best card I ever got was a dirty paper plate my brother sent me to remind me I was missed at Thanksgiving Dinner!! Really!! I was living in TN and all my family was in OH. It was my first Thanksgiving away from home. He nicley folded the paper plate in half, addressed it and put a stamp on it! That was when the Post Office took their delivery promises seriously!! LOL
don’t have a favorite….save handmade cards and admire them all.
Paper piecing is on my learn to do list for 2012. I would love the book to help get me started.
A card from my Mom when we were estranged. It brought us back together.
My sister-in-law makes such beautiful paper cut cards and I treasure every one of them! This is just the book I need for lots of ideas to make cards especially for her, too. Thanks “sew much” for this wonderful giveaway!!
I think the nicest cards are handmade cards. They seems to mean a little bit more.
I liked the book on amazon
The nicest card I ever got was my very first Christmas card after I got divorced and was renting my first house. I don’t even know how these people got MY address (as they were sent to me and not us as a couple, and not forwarded but addressed to me). I still have those cards. They meant the world to me.
I love the cards my grandchildren give me! Some are homemade (lots of love there), some are store-bought and beautiful.
This looks like so much fun. Thanks for the giveaway.
My oldest daughter, who was a handful as a teenager, gave me a mother’s day card that said “Mom, I realize it wasn’t easy raising me…The best and the brightest are always a challenge!” and she glued a picture of herself – wearing a shirt that says “I heart me” – over the cartoon girl on the front of the card. I have the card still many years later. A very special card.
Thanks for the opportunity to win this fabulous book. A great way to get projects precise. My favourite card was one my Sister gave me for Christmas one year. She made it out of bits from other cards and some red ribbon. Far to nice to throw away. It is on the bookcase in my sewing room.
happy days.

I got a birthday card in college from a former boyfriend I had broken up with six months previously. It was sweet and romantic and I knew we were going to be ok. We married other people but we’re friends to this day, 30 years later.
Just “liked” you on Facebook.
Any card that is made by the person giving it is special.
Nicest card was one with a drawing of a bunch of different owls – it was so cool that it inspired me to create a crewel embroidery wall hanging with those owls. I particularly remember the large snowy owl.
thanks!
That’s a very tough question. I can’t think of a specific one, but in general the ones my son made for me when he was little made my heart melt. In general, when someone goes to the trouble to make a card instead of buy one, it looks beautiful to me.

I love Carol Doak’s patterns and the way she makes piecing intricate blocks so easy and foolproof. The nicest greeting card I ever received was a condolence card from a 4-year-old friend, with her hand-drawn picture of my beloved dog we had recently lost to liver failure. I’m sure this book has a perfect block for me to make to send her!

I really, really, really “Like” you on FB! LOL!
Funny you should ask, the nicest card I received was in the mail yesterday. I was at hancock fabrics and asked a woman where she got a specfic pattern. She said she made it and said she would be willing to send me a copy of it. I gave her my address and said thanks and not a thought came to mind. We began talking and I found out they were on their way to the thrift shop to purchase extra winter coats for her daughter’s class (kindergarden teacher). Without a thought I handed the daughter/teacher $20.00 and asked her to buy some extra for the kids. The thank you note with the patterns said that her daughter (the teacher) was overwhelmed by my generosity. I thought no more about it, just a simple act of kindness. Can’t have kids go without winter coats even in the Carolinas, it still gets cold.
I would love to win!!!!
The nicest card I ever got was from Carol telling me how much she enjoyed spending time with our quilt guild and getting to spend time with each other during her lecture and workshops for 4 days. It was amazing and so is she. The most caring person you could ever meet. She makes us all laugh and you can’t help but learn to paper piece when you complete her classes. I would really love to win this book and add it to my collection of her works.
Looks like a great book!
Love Carol Doak and all her paper piecing innovations!! She is so creative!
Love Carol’s paper piecing method.
The best card I ever received was a hand painted Christmas card from a friend. She had to hand deliver it because at the time she could not even afford the postage for a stamp.
The nicest card that I ever received was hand made and a true work of art!

I think the most wonderful card would have to be one from my husband that I received a number of years ago. He is not into the sentimental things very much and that year he went all out plus the card and it was the sweetest one I have ever received in my books. Cards from my kids when they were small and made their own were wonderful too as are the grandkids cards, but hubby’s tope the list.

The nicest greeting card I ever got was from my husband when we had been fighting over silly things. While I was at school, he decorated the entire living room to say he was sorry & Happy Birthday and taped the greeting card on the door so I’d see it before entering.
That was 20 years ago & is still as fresh in my mind as though it were yesterday.
Just love Carols books. She has just the right way of teaching and she has taught me several new tricks.
I was blessed with a greeting card from my husband when we first started going out together, he knew I loved to quilt so he found one with a quilt design that said “you have taken my heart”
that was 25 years ago!

Carol is just wonderful and I can’t wait to start making all these blocks.
The nicest greeting card I ever received came just a few months ago after going on a “quilting cruise” to Alaska with my sister-in-law. She hadn’t originally been thrilled about the idea, but I think she knew I wanted to do it soooo bad, so she agreed to go with me. Her “thank you” card came a couple of weeks after we got home, and it talked about how wonderful a time she had and how it renewed her interest/excitement in life ~ her husband died tragically almost 6 years ago. Of course there was intense emotion for me, and I will never forget the card…

She told me how much she loves & misses me. It makes me home sick. That is the BEST greeting CARD that I have EVER received.

The card I’m thinking of today was a handwritten thank you for something I did for someone and I didn’t think my act was significant. It was important to her. So it just goes to show you that you should put good things out into the world.

I used to teach nursing assistants & one year was asked to teach 15 sixteen year olds at a small town high school. They didn’t want to be there so you can imagine their attitudes. At graduation 6 months later they gave me a big bunch of flowers and a home made card that simply said, “Thank-you for being you and thank-you for allowing us to be ourselves. We will never forget you.” Best card EVER!
These are adorable! Love them!

My best friend Lorraine makes cards for family and friends and last year she made me the best card I have ever seen. It was a little quilt made up of 1/4 inch little squares of different fabrics surrounded by a lovely border fabric. This little quilt was the front of the card. I really appreciated the amount of time and effort that Lorraine put into that card, she is the best friend anyone could have. I wish everyone could have a friend just like her.

All the hidden humour/private joke cards I get from my kids. Drives other people crazy and they don’t “get it” when you try and explain them…they try and outdo themselves each year. It’s great fun!
Carol’s designs rock. I’m sure this book will be as fabulous as all her others.
The best I’ve ever received was from the team at my chemical plant, the day I got my release from the oncologist. It was just a little piece of copy paper with a dot matrix graphic on it, but they had folded it in fours and everyone on all three shifts had put their names in congratulating me on surviving 40 weeks of chemotherapy, all the surgery and radiation while I managed to stay on the job. Lovely! I still have it, more than 20 years later.
I would love to win Carol’s new book.
This book of little blocks is going to be so exciting. I entered the postcard swap on the online group and it was so much fun. Now I will have more opportunities to share these cards with friends and family. The small blocks are just perfect for building a design for that size.
All the cards my DH has given me especially Valentines Day. Love making cloth postcards to give away.
The nicest greeting card I received was one from a friend some 23 years ago, using one of Carol’s blocks. I still have the card and I love it.
Warm hugs,

The neatest card I have ever received is a hand made card that was sent to me by a distant cousin that I never met. Although she sent me the card many years ago, I still have it, and have it displayed on my shelf, along with my pictures of my family.
I think hand made items are so much nicer than anything purchased in a store.

While packing to move I found birthday cards that my Dad sent me in college and birthday cards from my cousin/best friend, both who passed 20+ years ago. It made me sad but happy to think of all the good times we had….
Carol Doak you are Awesome! Love your work!
As a single parent raising a son and daughter was not easy but very rewarding. My favorite card came to me on Fathers Day from them. It was a handmade cards with bits and pieces of an array of color paper they had found and saved. They tried to make it as cheerful as they could with X’s and O’s scattered throughout. In side they had printed “You are the BEST Mom and Dad we could want.” I cherished that card for many years until it was destroyed by water. What made it even more touching was that I had lost my own father that Christmas.
The nicest card I ever received was from my daughter. She thanked me for making her what she is today and for always being there for her. She is very special. I would love to win a copy of Carol’s new book.

Wow, I would love to learn paper-piecing with this book! I just love Carol’s designs! I don’t have one favorite card, but the ones I received from my daughters when they were younger are at the top of my favorite list.
The most memorable one was the one a friends mother sent me when my own mother died. It said all the right things to know everything would be alright.
I had received a birthday card from my Dear Grandmother for almost 50 years my last and best one was 2 years ago. Gram (97 yrs) had really bad eye sight but was determined to write her message in the card. I miss them dearly as now I get no BD cards in the mail it is always great anticipation when the mail man came near my BD.
I am so glad in hindsight I had kept most of them, I can read them still and remember those years.
The blocks are adorable.
I wanted to come to Portland to take your class and my MIL got very sick so I couldn’t come so winning your new book would be great!!!!
When she was little (about 8, I think) my daughter made a Mother’s Day card for me that was beautiful! In addition to all the wonderful little hearts colored on it, it said, ” Mommy, I’m so glad you’re my mommy”. That just made my heart burst with love!
What a great prize winning Carol’s new book would be!! I can hardly wait to get started paper piecing again.

I would love to have her new book..
Paper piecing is such a wonderful way to get fabulous accurate points. I so enjoy doing this the Carol Doak Way. The 50 Fabulous State Stars blocks was the first King size quilt I made with paper piecing. It did turn out wonderful. So many compliments on the stars. I do mainly large quilts, but I want to do small projects this year. I would love to have this book in my collection. Love Paper Piecing!!!! It is the only way to go!!!
My 40 year old son sent me a Mother’s Day card with a handwritten note that would melt any mothers heart. Even a paper pieced heart!
Thank you Carol for all you do for the quilting world! I love your patterns.
One of my favorite cards was a birthday card from my sister – it referred to “eating chocolate chip cookie dough” something we both indulged in as children. It brought back lots of lovely memories. I would love to paper piece a card to send to her now.
Carol’s new book looks great! Thank you for sharing a few sample 3 inch blocks.
Using many of your heart patterns for my grand daughters baby quilt.
Really cute. Thanks.
The best greeting card I received recently was after I managed to flip my ATV twice in a two week period…my Aunt Charlotte sent me a card and how she found one that started with “CRASH—BAM—BOOM” on the front, I will never know…but even though my ankle was fractured and I was bed ridden for awhile I was laughing with tears! Thanks Aunt Char! YOU ROCK!!!
always love carol’s books!

I always learn something new from Carol’s book.
Best greeting card ever was back about 25 years ago when I was in my mid-20′s and didn’t have a boyfriend. It was from my dad… he asked he to be his Valentine. He’s been gone about 13 years now, but I still have that card that reminds me what unconditional love is all about…

When my daughter was about 3-1/2 she “colored” a birthday cake in one of her coloring books, tore it out, put it in an old utility bill envelope and presented it to me on my birthday. Best card EVER! :o)

I LOVE Carol’s blocks!!!!!!!!
This book will be a great, non intimidating way to make an inticate project.
Big or small. Still enough pieces to keep amy more experienced paper Piecers interested too. A great companion for the “300 paper-pieced Quilt Blocks” book to make a combination of sizes in the one project i think.
great job Carol
The nicest card I received is one mysister made with a poem she had written for my birthday many years ago.
I love paper piecing. Carol’s patterns are so easy and fun to do. It would be nice to win.

Not only did she send me the thank you note card, but she sent me a selection of cards to use myself! It was such a nice and unexpected surprise.
I am really enjoying the miniature paperpieced blocks from Carol. thank you so very much. jean
The nicest greeting card I ever received was the one I got for Valentines Day, 1967. I met my future husband in Ashland, Wisconsin on a bitter cold night……a typical college Wednesday night at the local gathering place (Cabby’s Tap). My future husband gave me a card that said “Won’t you be my hunny bunny”…….we still talk about it today. Therefore, it was a great greeting card.
My nicest was from my Dad the day after my son was born. It was my first Mothers Day and inside it said Thanks for the help Mom. Your son
The cards I get from my grandkids. They always make them and they are very special to me.
I have every one of Carol’s books. To win this one would be soooo awesome. But if I don’t, that is ok…..cause I will either ask for it at Christmas time of my Birthday!!! Keep them coming Carol I love your work!
The nicest card I got was from a foster child who sent me on every year for Mother’s Day. It was his way of keeping in touch. One year I did not get one :( I was contacted a few weeks later to find he was now tetraplegic from a car accident. He passed away two years ago
