“New From Old” Contest Ends Soon!

1404_contestbanner.jpgC&T is proud to be a sponsor of The Alliance for American Quilt’s “New from Old Contest.”

Here’s your chance to make a small quilt with a big payoff. In fact, the payoff might be really big. Say, the size of a mid-arm quilting machine, which is the grand prize for this year’s quilt contest to benefit the nonprofit Alliance for American Quilts. The “New From Old” theme was chosen as a reminder that quilting constantly re-invents itself, and because recycling seems smarter now than ever.

Contest quilts must be 16″ square and the deadline is May 31, so if you haven’t already entered, the time is now! Spectacular quilts are already arriving at the AAQ’s office in Asheville, NC. Don’t miss this excellent chance to enter your creation.

All contest quilts will tour to several major national quilt shows this summer, including the AQS show in Knoxville, TN, and the NQA show in Columbus, OH. The quilts also will be archived permanently at the Alliance website, so you’ll get lots of exposure even after the quilts are auctioned on eBay next fall to raise funds for the Alliance’s mission to document, preserve, and share the story of quilts and their makers.

I am excited about this contest – and actually got my piece in before the deadline! Yeah! I hope that the Alliance makes a lot of money on the auction of the quilts!

I wish I knew about this contest earlier. My brain blocks when I have to think of something quickly. Maybe next year.

I can’t wait to see all of the entries! I entered two in last years contest, and I’ve been working on a couple for this year. I hope to finish something in time, but due to several major life stressors 2010 has brought so far I had to have them on hold for a few months (I started early for a reason!). Anyway, I really enjoy all the Alliance has to offer and I’m glad to see it mentioned on this blog. If you’ve not checked their website yet, check it out now before you forget…and bookmark it! I wish I’d known about it sooner (I’ve only been a member for a year—but you don’t need to be a member to access all they have to offer). It’s a wonderful organization that I enjoy supporting in any way I can, and entering this contest is a fundraiser, so hopefully my couple of hours a day will add up to a finished quilt! Thanks again for mentioning it! And hopefully a few people have time to make something…it’s a small size and they are ALL auctioned, so it’s neat way to experiment with new ideas. PLUS, the judging is done by the members and what they like, not by RULES (they only rule is 16×16 and a hanging sleeve!). Good luck to all who enter!
