Liquitex Paints & Mediums Giveaway

Today’s blog giveaway is all about Liquitex® paints and mediums! You’ve been hearing us talk about acrylic paints and mediums a whole lot lately, what with the introduction of our Liquitex Surface Design Center for shops, and in reference to the books we’ve published recently that dive into the realms of mixed media, painting on fabric, and surface design. And then again, in our Painting on Fabric article series here on this blog, and in many of the projects we’ve recently posted.

We simply can’t get enough of Liquitex’s paint and medium products, so it is with much joy and no further ado, that I’ll now describe the contents of our latest blog giveaway bundle from Liquitex:

Liquitex Black Lava Texture Gel is a black speckled gel that contains small, flat, hexagonal shaped dark aggregates which produce a variety of unique textural, dimensional and reflective effects, when mixed with acrylic paint.. When wet, it looks gray but when dry, it gives the effect of ground, dry, black lava. It dries flexible and water-resistant.

Liquitex Pouring Medium creates even “puddles,” poured sheets, and flowing applications of color. It does not craze, crack, or hold bubbles in the paint film upon drying. Instead, it retains it’s high gloss and wet appearance when dry. Also flexible and water-resistant, you can mix it with Soft Body Acrylic Color to promote drying with a smooth, evenly colored film.

To be in the running for the Liquitex paints & mediums giveaway, leave a comment here or on Facebook telling us what Liquitex product you like the best, or what you want to make using Liquitex products. Comments will be closed at 9am PST on Monday, April 19, 2010 and the winner will be announced the following Tuesday. Good luck!

Extra comment entries are available to you if you want to maximize your chances at being the giveaway winner! If you take one or more of the actions listed below, enter an extra comment for each, and in that comment tell us what you did and link to the proof where that’s possible.

I’ve used Liquitex gel medium to do ink jet image transfers onto fabric. Just print an image onto transparency film (ink jet only), lightly spread the gel medium onto the fabric and lay the printed image onto the medium. Burnish and remove to reveal a mirror image on fabric. Would love to try their paints!

I bet my sister and I could have some real fun this summer with the new dyes she has and these paints. No piece of fabric would be safe!
    Thanks for the great giveaway!

Ive been thinking about trying to use the liquitex gel, esp the lava gel you mention here, but to use it on a textile piece. Ive got a thick bark picture in my mind and want to create it in manipulated fabric form, so wonder if the small particles contained within this product might bring its own special feature to the creation?
Maybe have it within the folds so that it forms crevices of still textural shade?
Do please put me into the draw for this! Lyn

That Black Lava Texture Gel sure does give me ideas! I’m at the point right now where pretty much all of my acrylic paints are in desperate need of replacement. cool paints…I used to use them years ago to screenprint on paper, but have never tried them on fabric…and the medium variety wasn’t available then. I still have some liquitex in my stash, but I think it’s all just acrylic paint for kids’ projects…

  60. Posted April 7, 2010 at 10:58 am | Permalink

I use such a wide range of Liquitex products that I find it hard to label any particular one as my special favorite. I use the Slow Dry Blending Gel mixed with a variety of Liquitex liquid acrylic paints when silkscreening and doing other forms of printing. I use the Light Modeling Paste when making “plaster paper” (and this will be mentioned in a local demo I will be doing, for an artists’ organization, April 21.) For special effects in my mixed-media paintings and collages, I use Black Lava, White Opaque Flakes and Glass Beads. I use Matte Gel, Gloss Gel and Gloss Gel Super Heavy in creating my altered art assemblages. For applying assorted color glazes to my acrylic paintings , I use Gloss Medium and Varnish as well as Glazing Medium. Very recently, at an art vendors’ expo in Summit, NJ, I purchased a range of Liquitex Inks which I am looking forward to using.

I have been a fan of Liquitex Gesso for years. What I find particularly appealing about the product is that it accepts such a variety of mediums. It provides enough “tooth” to use with color pencils, yet works very well with watercolors or acrylics. Among the items I produce are illustrated kraft paper boxes, coated first with Liquitex Gesso. Other comparable products do not have the same properties and do not provide an acceptable base for the pencil illustrations.

Tiny fabric books. They are painted inside and out. That’s where all my paints and findings and mediums and everything goes right now.

  135. Posted April 10, 2010 at 9:27 am | Permalink

I have been debating between Setacolor and Liquitex, but it seem like the Liquitex is the more popular product among fiber artists. So that’s probably the one I’d try first. The paints are always fun, but I want to work with the various mediums as well. Only recently have I read about mediums….all I’ve ever used is water as an additive. This is the first I’ve read about the Black Lava product and it sounds like it would produce interesting results. Thanks for a great giveaway and all the info on your blog about using all of these fun, new products!

As a jewelry designer, I use alcohol inks on brass to create soft Monet-like “canvases”; I’d love to see how your acrylic inks would work with my process. I think your acrylic paints might also work, if thinned appropriately. I’m always interested in trying new material to freshen up a technique and help it develop and grow.

Are you kidding me!!! While I want to try every single color and every possible medium I’m going with the “Black Lava Texture Gel” It sounds so much more interesting than the basic texture mediums. I want all the art in my house to be self-made and I envision a blended background of sort of striping with textured stenciled birds over it and maybe some Lutrador heated branches. I’m so excited to try it!!

It would be so much easier to use Liquitex mediums and paints, to get a more vibrant appearance and not have to use frames or the sealant I use for the beads. It would also make it easier to decorate my grandaughter’s clothes. I live in a remote area that doesn’t offer many choices of decorations.

I have been wanting to try my hand at painting on fabric. I am fairly new to fabric art and still a little hesitant to try new things. Winning would give me the nudge I need to start a beautiful wall hanging. Thanks for this chance to win.

I would so love to try the paints for shading and emphasizing on the quilt I’m working on now. My fabric choices blend into each other too much and I think shading with your paints would be just the thing and would add some punch to background design elements!!
