Our friends at RIT Dye have given us 12 bottles of dye to give away to one lucky blog reader! We had to join the fun, so have thrown in some Ready-to-Go! Blank Canvas Books to get the winner started dyeing, as well as a copy of Rebekah Meier’s Fabric Art Collage!
Fabric Art Collage includes Rebekah’s dyeing and overdyeing techniques with RIT Dye so recently RIT featured Fabric Art Collage on their blog, Edie’s Fashion Factory. Check out that post here, then check out the rest of the site because there’s plenty of cool videos and dyeing how-tos.
The RIT Dye colors included in the giveaway are: Fuchsia, Cherry Red, Sunshine Orange, Lemon Yellow, Cocoa Brown, Taupe, Apple Green , Dark Green, Denim Blue, Evening Blue, Purple, and Black. That’s ALOT of dye!! But there are so many uses for RIT—from fashion to quilting, sewing, mixed media art and more—I’m sure the lucky giveaway winner will have a fantastic time devising a plan for making use of it all.
To be in the running for the RIT Dye giveaway bundle, leave a comment here or on Facebook telling us which project or dyeing technique from the RIT website or blog you want to try most and why. Comments will be closed at 9pm PST on Monday, March 22, 2010 and the winner will be announced the following Tuesday. Good luck!
Extra comment entries are available to you if you want to maximize your chances at being the giveaway winner! If you take one or more of the actions listed below, enter an extra comment for each, and in that comment tell us what you did and link to the proof where that’s possible.

I love that silk wrap with the autumn leaves, that would be fun to do, very unique. I love the bottle form, but I can only get a couple of basic colors here. I have experimented with mixing, but still trying to get good shades.

I have used RIT dyes for decades – use it to give my old clothes a little color 'lift' when they start to fade – or I get tired of them!

RIT dyes are wonderful to use and they truly make some wonderful fabrics to use in future quilts. Thanks RITs and CT Publishing for all the wonderful opportunities to be creative.

Projects – ah where to start – I’d love to sort out some fabric for dyeing and really want to try various techniques, Medoly Johnston’s fusible collage type panels, even with a woven fabric panel with the dyed fabric. I want to make a nuno felted scarf – so dyeing for that plus I’ve 2 fleeces which when sorted and carded need to be dyed for spinning, felting, weaving – with these dyes a whole new world of exploration and playtime would start – thanks for a great giveaway gift – and I hope I might be lucky enough to be a winner, if not someone else is going to have a super time.
I haven't dyed yet so would like to have a go at everything! Just like life really.

I’d love to try several of the projects. The handyed guest towels and sillk scarf look fun–also some greeting cards! I’d love to win, fingers crossed.
I’d try the ombre dip-dye technique to make something for my daughter and myself. I’d also try Edie’s no-wax batik project–I teach sewing to refuge women, and some of the students from Aftrica have said they’d like to learn batik-dying so they can design fabrics “like home.”
I would love to dye my own fabric for quilting! Thank you for this opportunity! I think the ombré technique is great also.
I would really like to try the hand-dyed silk wrap. It looks so rich!
I would really like to try the hand-dyed silk wrap. It looks so
I would probably try as many different ways as possible, bud mostly I would spot-dye to liven my wardrobe…
I haven’t ever dyed anything, but would love to try! I am especially interested in using the sink/bucket method, but I might use my bathtub!
I love to do surface design with paints, but my altered cloth repetoire lacks dyeing. I’d love to use RIT dyes to try to create new cloth that I can use in my art quilts, such as over dying and shibori. I’m sure I’d learn a lot from and be inspired by Rebekah Meier’s book as well.
I would love to try dyeing/creating baby onesies.
I’d like to try the sink dyeing method. I have a sweater that was accidentally dyed by the red lining of a bag, and try as I might I cannot get the splotches out. I would love to overdye a new colour and save it from the trash pile, but have been concerned it would end up getting matted and horrible on the stovetop.
I love the dyed hoodie! It’s super cute and would be way fun to make! jinglesells at gmail dot com
LOVE the silk wrap!
I would love to try out the handtown project! I haven’t died anything since some lame attempts at tie dye in middle school but I would love to start – this package would set me up for life! Thanks.

I just recently started quilting and I would love to try something new with dyes plus maybe incorporate the fabric in the design! Thanks for the chance to try something new!
I think using RIT dyes would be a good way to see if I REALLY want to get into dying my own fabrics. For now I’m buying hand-dyes from others. I have so many quilting related hobbies that I need to be more selective. ALSO, I haven’t used RIT dyes since the late 60′s…I don’t think there was an option to get a liquid form…it came powdered in boxes! So…it would be fun to win this giveaway!
I’d like to try the Easter tablecloth.

I have some pillows from my old (beloved) sofa, and would really like to dye them new colors, so they can be used in the redecorated rooms. Thanks for the chance to win!

I love to dye and it would be so fun to win this set! I usually use Cushings acid dyes but I’d like to try the Rit. Spot dyeing is a great challenge so you don’t end up with mud when you’re done!

I have used RIT dyes in the past before I knew they were such a cool component of the art quilters tool kit. i really want to try the blank canvas books and dyeing each page. or dyeing some canvas and making a artist tool tote bag for my outdoor endeavors. thanks for the chance to try something new. :)
I added a badge to my blog :)
I love Rit dye for my cotton weaving yarn and I would LOVE to try over dying fabric! What a nice give away! Good luck everybody!
I subscribe to the newsletter :)
Thanks!
After looking at the numerous thngs you can do with Rit dyes, I realized that I would like to do some things on fabric but am eager to try some paper projects, too. The Batiking Watercolor Paper will be my first.
I am a whole cloth painter and would love to try the Rit dyes in my fabric designs and maybe use them in my online classes that I teach. The Batiking on watercolor paper is interesting and I could play with that method in my mixed media fiber collages. I have been experimenting with dyeing and trying to find an easy way to do it without all of the hassle of traditional dyes.
Of course I would do some tye dying! I love to do that and use the cloths for background for my hand embroideries.
I would love dyeing with RIT dye. It seems to be much easier than my MX dyes. I love the projects you’ve been doing, and I would love to win this giveaway.
I torn between dyeing beads or wool.
Custom colors looks like lots of fun. Winning 12 different colors sure would make this possible.
Ah, the memories of tie dyed clothing.
I would love to try the Batiking on watercolor technique, sounds like a great one for ATC’s!
This sounds like a great collection of information of fabric dying.
I haven’t used Rit dye since I was a child. I would try all of the techniques but the one that I’d go for first is the Batiking Watercolor Paper. I didn’t know that Rit had a resist product. And since I am an experimenter, I would try the process on fabric too, just to see what happens. I would also play around with the dyes to see how I could get a mottled look (not solid) to my fabrics like I do with MX dyes.
I would love to dye wool felt and create a bag. I would also try to dye silk and create wearable flower pins.
I would absolutely love to try these out!! Fingers crossed here and hopefully colorful soon!
Love your newsletter!
I would love to win the dye and books and love your blank books !
I am a beginning dyer, and am looking forward to making my own hand dyed fabric to use in my art quilts.
I’d love to try these out to compare with the procion mx dyeing that I already do.
I would love to win this prize. RIT has been around FOREVER; however, there are so many new techniques for using dye. For instance, I always thought of dye as being purely for fabrics. After visiting the RIT website, I discovered that unfinished wood could be dyed as well. This is a technique I will have to try!!!!
I love rit dye and have been using for years. I not only use it to make my khaki’s look new again to wear to my annual conference but use it in my art work. I am a dollmaker and use Rit to dye fabric for the basic doll body, their clothing and sometimes the hair. I have used it in the washing machine, stovetop, and microwave to dye white buttons whatever color I need at the moment. Take a look at my website to view my elves. I dyed the cheesecloth for the undergarments and also the hair for the Lion King. I love, love, love the silk scarf and would love to try that. I subscribed to your newsletter this morning and just subscribed to the youtube site. They have some great how-to video’s there!
Please count me in.
I want to use your dye on wool and it sure would help me out to win!!
I will be teaching a class with these woolens in the fall. I neeeeeed them. Thank you for your generous opportunity.
I really like RIT dye and have always thought that it got a bit of a bad rap from Procion users. Rit is a great way to introduce yourself to hand dyeing. I have used it to over-dye clothes that have gotten bleach stains and it works great.
I would love to be able to experiment with these dyes some more – making the long tunic and also dying some muslin yardage that I need for a quilt back
I Hope I hope! Thanks for the opportunity!
I have dyed fabrics using tea & coffee, but haven’t had an opportunity to try using ‘proper’ dyes. I’ve always loved the tie dye look so I know that is what I’d do first.
Ohhhhh such pretty colors! They are simply to DYE for! Thanks for a shot at the give-away.
Normajean Brevik
Oh My!! What a lot of fun I could have with all that dye
Betty
I would love to try the sink or bucket method, but really, I just have been wanting to take a dyeing class or do some fabric dyeing for a long time. One of your author’s does a class at Dharma, but I keep having a conflict on the day they are scheduled. I’ve also seen rit dyeing on another artist’s website and it makes it look so easy and do-able. Thanks for the contest and the chance to win.
I would love to learn to dye with Rit. So many new ideas to try.
I love hand dyed fabrics! Would love to try this. What a fun give-a-way. Thanks.
I now have a link to your site on my blog. I hope this gets me another vote – can you tell I am anxious, want to win, want to win, want to win:o)
I’d LOVE to try the Batiking Watercolor Paper technique – I’m amazed at the many, many uses there is for RIT dye – I remember watching my older sister and her friends tie dye their t-shirts in the backyard, and watching the multicolored grass grow. My dad was NOT happy, but everyone else was having a blast!
I’m going to use the bunny batik idea from the table-topper (Rit site) to make a block with bunnies, baskets, tulips and eggs for an appliqued top for Easter.
Also, I’m helping with a fun Easter Bonnet decorating project at the senior clubhouse where Mom lives. The dyed wool flowers from Edie’s bag on her blog will be fun to have them make and add to their bonnets and/or make a matching lapel pin.
Ooh yes please, place my name in the draw!
I have signed up for the news letter and will try and place CT details on my blog too in afew minutes……….!
That wonderful hand dyed silk wrap on the RIT site, inspires me to ‘play’ with dyes and fabrics and produce both subtle and loud, autumnal shades that run languidly into each other. I would use the fabrics for making textual leaves, some ruched with an embellisher others distorted with machine stitching and then laid 3D onto a background of barklike textured upholsetry fabrics………….I can ‘see’ it in my mind! Okay now to cross my fingers till the draw takes place!!!
I have never dyed fabric before. Dying fabric should be a lot of fun and give me an excuses to work outside the box again.
I would LOVE to try the tie-dyed t-shirts! They look fantastic! I would love to go into the draw – thank you
p.s. I haVE put one of the blog badges on my blog too!
I love Rit dye…what a great chance to maybe WIN some!
I have DYEING to play with fabric dyeing!! (haha) Please pick me to win this awesome prize! This will make me practice…especially now that I have the space to do it!
Wow forgot how much you can do with Rit dye i’m itching to get started on a dip dye shawl or tie dye fabric for something summery and floaty. My sons are already hiding their favorite T’s and rolling their eyes.
I love RIT Dyes!!!! The dyed beads look interesting. I wouldn’t mind trying them out! What a great give-away!
Hi wow what a giveaway!!! This is so exciting. I would love to try the fuschia, yellow the green and blues just allot other than black and brown. Thanks so much for the opportunity
Sharon
I bought a wool blanket at a flea market and I can’t wait to cut it into strips and dye each one a different color, and sew it up into pillows, totes and stuffed warm fuzzies!!
I have joined your newsletter, gladly!!! You have wonderful information there and now that I think about it more I would love to make my own beads and try dyeing those…yummmmmm
Sharon
I have added you to my you tube favorites….Thanks again
I remember helping with my daughter’s girl scout troop when they tie-dyed t-shirts with Rit dye. It sure was fun and what fantastic designs the girls came up with! Batiks are some of my favorite fabrics to use in my quilt tops, so I would love to win the Rit Give-a-way to try and make my own, one of a kind fabrics!
RT @ctpublishing: We are setting back the time of comments closing for the RIT Dye giveaway to 9pm tonight! Get your comments in! http:/ …
I have a few yards of white linen that are just screaming for some spring color. That RIT Dye sure would do the trick!
I would like to try the dying on silk. I have always wanted to do this, but if I had the dye already I would have no excuse. I would like to see addressed the machine dying with a front loading machine. They show one on the website, but the machine directions were for amounts of water in the washer and that couldn’t apply with a front loader.
What a wonderful give-a-way……..I teach children to quilt and this will be such an addition to their creative learning! Thank you!!
This is something I’ve been wanting to try. Why not now?!!
WOW – CT comes thru again for all us crafty folks. I would love to try the RIT Dye and share with my fabric arts quilting buddies. We would have a lot of fun playing! Thanks!
Looks like fun. I would like to try over-dying. The embossing and spraying of dye on the batting looks interesting too.
Cynthia
I remember when tye dye came out- back in the day- I was so into dying, I ran out of whites & lit into my oldster father’s drawers…………. What Fun !!
That is a lot of dye…would love to play with it!
The dyed bead bracelets project could just fulfill an urgent request for a few crafted items for a fundraiser. Never thought of it before checking out the blog.
Wow! I am dyeing (?) to try Rebekah Meier’s embossed bamboo batting and over dye projects! I have never seen anything like this and it is right down my alley. I am also hoping to use some dyes to get the just right color on some wool roving I want to use for felting.
If I could win this it would be a dream come true…money is way too tight since hubby was disabled and I love altering fabric. I would try dyeing canvas for my mixed media and totes…dye fabric for my art dolls and art quilts…batik on paper and cloth…and overdyeing with plastic shapes for variety. It has always been a dream of mine to design fabrics with my drawing and dye….Thanks for the chance!
WOW!! Some very lucky winner will be able to experiment with those dyes as well as the canvas book and the collage book!! Ther would seem to be endless possibilities. I would love to be that one.
Always lots of fun to try new things. Thanks
Loved the directions on RIT Dye site on ombre dyeing. Would like to give that a try for creating a base for some surface design work.
I’d like to use the bucket technique to mix custom colors. I’d like to make some small strips of fabric that I’ll use in a custom jewelry piece along with polymer clay to match a special outfit
What a fabulous giveaway! I could have so much fun with those goodies :)
I love wearing tights so the first thing I’m going to try is making some dyes tights!
I have always wanted to try dying. I believe that with RIT’s great instructions I could dye a top and skirt and scarf similar to what RIT is showing on their website under the projects section. My granddaughter will be 12 soon, so she is the perfect age to be wearing all of the latest trendy styles. The nice part of this project is that it won’t go out of style next week; she will be able to get a lot of use out of it.
This sounds exciting.. I have 4 llama’s, and can’t you just see them all pink and purple in the field.. Seriously, going to dye some of their wool bright colors and then felt it.. Rite dye sounds like an easy way to do it..
Love to work with fabric dyes
Hi! I have a boat-load of antique glass beads, all the same cream color. Can they be dyed? I would certainly give it a try, given the wonderful colors I would get with this motherload of RIT.
Subscribed to your YouTube account as crw1204. Can it be pie day everyday everywhere?
I tweeted: http://twitter.com/verypurple/status/10897711051 :)

I would love to try my hand at over-dyeing floss and tie-dyeing some fabric.
I would love to win this month’s giveaway and try the RIT dye Batik technique.

Dying to dye ~ am starting to quilt and can i=use any help you can give me… this is the first I’ve ever done and I’m not terribly young !!! Thanks so much for the opportunity …..
I love the dyed bracelets!
Didn’t put nearly enough in my blurb… I am a watercolorist from way back as well as a sewer.. Used to make all my own clothing. Now am trying tote bags and lots of other projects (some from a rival publisher) but don;’t hold that against me :) Am an avid FB person.
Would love to win as I can use all of these great products :)
I’ve always wanted to try dyeing my own stuff but have never gotten the courage up.
Love hand dyed and painted fabrics. RIT used to sell a tan which quilters used to overdye for an aged look. What happened to that?
Wow! I JUST found out about this – hope I’m not too late to sign up!
: ) lulu
I have never used dye’s with quilting and am anxious to try them out. Thank you. :)
My mother used Rit Dye for years and I have been wanting to use it to make my own fabrics for quilting and for mixed media. The heavy dyes that require mask, etc. have always scared me and I don’t really have an area suitable for using those types of dyes.
Wow! Just thinking about all those great colors is exciting. The possibilities are endless… I would love to have the opportunity to create a beautiful silk wrap, or even at table runner using the example as inspiration. And the Easter table cloth is absolutely adorable! Some lucky individual is in store for a lot of creative fun! I think the autumn leaves would be great with some batiking to add definition, just so many possibilities, what a fantastic giveaway!
I love all the art quilts and would love to try dyeing my own fabric.I would love to win.
Love RITdye I use it to over dye clothes. Would LOVE to try some of the other techniques.
Wow, You set my mind spinning with ideas to create with Rit Dyes. .can’t wait to try it . Hope I win.!! :)
Batik paper. How cool would that be!! I haven’t seen the Rit dyes like this. They would be so fun to try.
What a great give away! I would love to try a lot of things now that I know about them! Especially the blank canvas book as I am artistical.
I love to dye my clothes that have faded, or that I am tired of, and it brings new life into my wardrobe =0)
I would also like to incorporate it into my crochet, dying white, off white, even ecru, etc, yarn for even MORE originality that I strive for =)
I am also subscribing to your newsletter.
Being an artist of many mediums I am always trying something new. Although RIT Dyes have been around for years and years, it is awesome to see how it has been rediscovered and reintroduced several times over. I am anxious to try the entire spectrum of colors in as many ways possible!!
Can’t wait to see if I’m the winner!!!
I hope I win. I love Rit and have used it since high school many years ago.
I hope I win! I love RIT and have since I first used it in high school.
Would love to be the lucky winner of the Rit Giveaway. I am adicted to Quilting and dyeing all of my fabrics. My latest projects have been Tectile/Fiber Art and the Rit Product is my favorite dies.
linked the blog with my blog and can’t wait to find me some leggings to dye. I just had some of my students over and we “use gel glue to resist our” now I am inspired to use Rit Liquid Dye to bucket dye our “glue resist fabric.”
Betty
What fun! I’d be delighted to win. I remember my mother using RIT dye 50 years ago! It solved lots of problems for us. I would love to experiment with new ideas.
I am new to fabric dying and would LOVE to win this gift and begin trying all the techniques.
I would LOVE to try the techniques in Rebekah’s book. I love the colors of RIT dyes, they are so clear and vibrant. They just spur you on to do your best work! Hope I win, have a LOT of ideas for new color mixtures/designs.
I want to be a winner…I love all this stuff…cannot get enough!!
I’ve recently been “playing” with dyeing wool, and I’m pretty excited about the whole dyeing “adventure”–I’d love to try out several techniques. What’s really excited me about what I’ve done so far is overdying wool–seeing the different colors and visual “textures” that result from the same dye used with different pieces of wool. Dyeing is just such a marvelous adventure!
I used rit dye for the first time WAY back in 1974 to make a purple tye-dyed t-shirt, i’ve been using rit dye for a long time and have never been disappointed!!
So great to get the email and links from C & T. And now RIT DYE. I had revived a family tradition & my grandfather taught me. He called it Swedish Weaving (done on Hucked toweling). We had been limiting ourselves to tea and coffee dying the fabric and after test applying the tye dye stocking technique and seeing the beads and bracelets dyed with Rit. A great new palette opened up to planning for gifts and holiday table settings / Runners and napkins. Always more room for learning. Thanks RIT! John and Lorraine
I wish we had all of this lovely dyes in South Africa. We really battle to get nice dyes. I was dying wool this weekend and really battle to get nice colours. I even used icing sugar colouring. I would like to know if you do sell them in South Africa. I am a PFAFF dealer and would like to sell them in my shop. I also do material dye for quilting, and in the process of doing batik work. Please tell me if you do sell them in South African, or can I sell market and sell them in my shop.
THANKS PAULA
