RIT Dye, Fabric Art Collage and Canvas Books Giveaway!

Our friends at RIT Dye have given us 12 bottles of dye to give away to one lucky blog reader! We had to join the fun, so have thrown in some Ready-to-Go! Blank Canvas Books to get the winner started dyeing, as well as a copy of Rebekah Meier’s Fabric Art Collage!

Fabric Art Collage includes Rebekah’s dyeing and overdyeing techniques with RIT Dye so recently RIT featured Fabric Art Collage on their blog, Edie’s Fashion Factory. Check out that post here, then check out the rest of the site because there’s plenty of cool videos and dyeing how-tos.

the giveaway bundle

The RIT Dye colors included in the giveaway are: Fuchsia, Cherry Red, Sunshine Orange, Lemon Yellow, Cocoa Brown, Taupe, Apple Green , Dark Green, Denim Blue, Evening Blue, Purple, and Black. That’s ALOT of dye!! But there are so many uses for RIT—from fashion to quilting, sewing, mixed media art and more—I’m sure the lucky giveaway winner will have a fantastic time devising a plan for making use of it all.

To be in the running for the RIT Dye giveaway bundle, leave a comment here or on Facebook telling us which project or dyeing technique from the RIT website or blog you want to try most and why. Comments will be closed at 9pm PST on Monday, March 22, 2010 and the winner will be announced the following Tuesday. Good luck!

Extra comment entries are available to you if you want to maximize your chances at being the giveaway winner! If you take one or more of the actions listed below, enter an extra comment for each, and in that comment tell us what you did and link to the proof where that’s possible.

I want to make a nuno felted scarf – so dyeing for that plus I’ve 2 fleeces which when sorted and carded need to be dyed for spinning, felting, weaving – with these dyes a whole new world of exploration and playtime would start – thanks for a great giveaway gift – and I hope I might be lucky enough to be a winner, if not someone else is going to have a super time.

I have so many quilting related hobbies that I need to be more selective. I’ve always been drawn to rit dyes when I see them in stores but I’ve never been brave enough to try them. I think that would have to be my first experiment!

Oh my, it sounds like everyone’s got a raging case of ” color fever”. Can’t wait to see what everyone makes! Feel free to shoot me any dye questions you might have. This looks like it’s gonna be super fun!

Wow! A great giveaway! Besides trying my hand at the blank canvas books, I’d love to update some of my home furnishings with RIT dye. I have some pillows from my old (beloved) sofa, and would really like to dye them new colors, so they can be used in the redecorated rooms. Thanks for the chance to win!

  215. Posted March 22, 2010 at 1:15 pm | Permalink

I am a whole cloth painter and would love to try the Rit dyes in my fabric designs and maybe use them in my online classes that I teach. The Batiking on watercolor paper is interesting and I could play with that method in my mixed media fiber collages. I have been experimenting with dyeing and trying to find an easy way to do it without all of the hassle of traditional dyes.

Of course I would do some tye dying! I love to do that and use the cloths for background for my hand embroideries.

I haven’t used Rit dye since I was a child. I would try all of the techniques but the one that I’d go for first is the Batiking Watercolor Paper. I didn’t know that Rit had a resist product. And since I am an experimenter, I would try the process on fabric too, just to see what happens. I would also play around with the dyes to see how I could get a mottled look (not solid) to my fabrics like I do with MX dyes.

I would love to win this prize. RIT has been around FOREVER; however, there are so many new techniques for using dye. For instance, I always thought of dye as being purely for fabrics. After visiting the RIT website, I discovered that unfinished wood could be dyed as well. This is a technique I will have to try!!!!

  229. Posted March 22, 2010 at 1:45 pm | Permalink

I love rit dye and have been using for years. I not only use it to make my khaki’s look new again to wear to my annual conference but use it in my art work. I am a dollmaker and use Rit to dye fabric for the basic doll body, their clothing and sometimes the hair. I have used it in the washing machine, stovetop, and microwave to dye white buttons whatever color I need at the moment. Take a look at my website to view my elves. I dyed the cheesecloth for the undergarments and also the hair for the Lion King. I love, love, love the silk scarf and would love to try that. I subscribed to your newsletter this morning and just subscribed to the youtube site. They have some great how-to video’s there!

  231. Posted March 22, 2010 at 1:46 pm | Permalink

I really like RIT dye and have always thought that it got a bit of a bad rap from Procion users. Rit is a great way to introduce yourself to hand dyeing. I have used it to over-dye clothes that have gotten bleach stains and it works great.

I would love to be able to experiment with these dyes some more – making the long tunic and also dying some muslin yardage that I need for a quilt back
I Hope I hope! Thanks for the opportunity!

I would love to try the sink or bucket method, but really, I just have been wanting to take a dyeing class or do some fabric dyeing for a long time. One of your author’s does a class at Dharma, but I keep having a conflict on the day they are scheduled. I’ve also seen rit dyeing on another artist’s website and it makes it look so easy and do-able. Thanks for the contest and the chance to win.

I’d LOVE to try the Batiking Watercolor Paper technique – I’m amazed at the many, many uses there is for RIT dye – I remember watching my older sister and her friends tie dye their t-shirts in the backyard, and watching the multicolored grass grow. My dad was NOT happy, but everyone else was having a blast!

I’m going to use the bunny batik idea from the table-topper (Rit site) to make a block with bunnies, baskets, tulips and eggs for an appliqued top for Easter.
Also, I’m helping with a fun Easter Bonnet decorating project at the senior clubhouse where Mom lives. The dyed wool flowers from Edie’s bag on her blog will be fun to have them make and add to their bonnets and/or make a matching lapel pin.

Ooh yes please, place my name in the draw!
I have signed up for the news letter and will try and place CT details on my blog too in afew minutes……….!
That wonderful hand dyed silk wrap on the RIT site, inspires me to ‘play’ with dyes and fabrics and produce both subtle and loud, autumnal shades that run languidly into each other. I would use the fabrics for making textual leaves, some ruched with an embellisher others distorted with machine stitching and then laid 3D onto a background of barklike textured upholsetry fabrics………….I can ‘see’ it in my mind! Okay now to cross my fingers till the draw takes place!!!

A great new palette opened up to planning for gifts and holiday table settings / Runners and napkins. Always more room for learning. Thanks RIT! John and Lorraine
