Sneak Peek: City Quilts

CityGreen_detail

We have to wait until May to get THIS book, but believe me, I am already lining up for my copy of City Quilts by Cherri House. I love, love, LOVE the quilts in this book. From the gradations in the color, to the geometric shapes, to the sleek, understated style, to the modern, techie-cool feeling they give me—my new goal in life is to get one of these quilts on to my bed.

The book includes photos of Cherri’s city inspirations to help the aspiring reader understand how Cherri used fabric and thread to bring these urban elements, such as modern city architecture & buildings, city landscapes and city views, to materialize in her quilts.

City Lights, the quilt on the book cover

Color is the heart of this book, and I’m smiling as I write that, because I just can’t get enough of the colors in the book.

It’s occurred to me before that solid fabrics might be underrated in the print fabric-loving world of quilting. Cherri House might just turn the tables and start a solid fabric revolution once the world gets ahold of her book and sees what she does with “just” solids.

Cherri has a great blog where she often writes about the quilts in her book and the “City Quilts journey.” This post describes the best day of her trek toward this book’s publication.

The quilts look very much like the quilts that Bill Kerr and Weeks Ringle make. Looking forward to seeing the whole book.

I’m so excited over Cherri’s new book – it’s singing to me. I love the fresh modern look – and yet it’s still traditional quilting at heart. I probably could have worded that better. Mad love for the book, Cherri!
