This June we have a book coming out called Socks Appeal by Brenna Maloney. When I first heard that we were working on a book about projects to make from socks, I was a little skeptical. That was until I made my way to the book’s focus meeting. (This is where we title books and chose a cover image.) I remember making my way towards the conference room, rounding the corner, stepping into the doorway and stopping in my tracks. I had made eye contact with the cutest white bunny rabbit I had ever seen.
Her eyes were saying “hold me, cuddle with me.” and I could not say no. As I scanned the room, there were more adorable creatures. Penguins, kittens, hamsters…oh my. It was difficult to conduct the meeting because we were all fighting over who got to hold the bunny. It went something like: “It’s my turn, no you already had a turn, I just want a few minutes, but Brenna gave the bunny to me…”
So, fast forward to Holiday Craft Camps 2009. When we saw the sign up sheet for the sock bunny class taught by Cynthia, so many people signed up we had to split the class in two. Every one was told to bring a pair of socks, and buttons. The days before the sock bunny class, the excitement among the staff was escalating. The day of the class I was a little nervous because I do not have the sewing talents that many of my colleagues display. In fact, I would venture to say I have no sewing talents but to my surprise the sock bunny was so easy to make and almost impossible to mess up.
Just a couple of snips with the scissors, a little sewing, a little stuffing and voila, we had all made the most adorable bunnies. I grasped the concept so fast, I helped the next class make their sock bunnies. I couldn’t wait to go home and share my sock bunny with the family.
