National Nonwovens is celebrating over a Century of making WoolFelt®!
The company was founded in 1905 as a producer of felted wool for apparel, home furnishings, and wartime products. In the 1950s WoolFelt® was used for the first poodle skirt! Today it is used for heirloom and holiday projects by fiber artists, quilters, sewers, and crafters.
Many C&T Publishing authors use WoolFelt® for projects in their books including Laura Lee Fritz, Joni Pike, Mary Stori and Lynne Farris. For a complete list of designers and to read testimonials click here. To learn more about WoolFelt® and its many uses visit Commonwealthfelt.com.
To celebrate a century of WoolFelt® and the great relationship National Nonwovens has with our authors, they would like to honor a lucky C&T Blog reader with 2 fat quarter bundles! The bundles are made of 100% virgin wool WoolFelt® featuring the Original Homespun Collection and Classic Homespun collection.
To be in the running for the fat quarter bundle giveaway, leave a comment here or on Facebook telling us what you’d make with the WoolFelt® if you win! Comments will be closed at 9am PST on Monday, December 21, 2009 and the winner will be announced later that day. Good luck!

I've been inspired to try and make little bendy dolls with felt clothing- My friend and I are going to have a craft night for them! I'd love to win the WoolFelt!
Now this is an interesting product! I have never heard of it. Of course I know what wool is and what felt is, but WoolFelt? I’ve been quilting for 5 years and recently began experimenting with more artsy types of quilts, along with my favorite pieced projects. So, if I were to win this I would definitely find a way to use it in a quilting project. I’d also do an on-line search for free projects that use it. I did notice a potholder on one of the links you provided. I’d try something small and easy first.
Thanks for the opportunity to try something different!
I’d love to play with these wool felt fat quarters. Yummy colors!

pincushions –
bottlecap pincushions…

that i could really use!
I would use the felt for next year’s Christmas wall hanging quilt. I will have made 7 this year by Christmas time and plan on making as many next year too.
I definitely would experiment with it, and make some flowers, leaves, paisleys, etc., to decorate some bags/purses. Thanks for giving me a chance to win.
What a wonderful gift for someone to win. It would be an honor to make an applique tabletopper with the prize. Projects made with woolfelts are so beautiful, warm and fun to do. Who doesn’t love a beautiful tabletopper made with love?
Merry Christmas.
Beautiful colors! I want to make a blanket.
I am wanting to experiment in piecing together the wool and creating my own design of a jacket. Another thought I have is playing around with the felt to make some clothes for little girls.
I’d make some gingerbread & snowmen ornaments for gift tags & use some on tablerunners. Maybe even make some pins & headband embellisments.
I would make a landscape block entirely out of wool and then embellish the details with embroidery. Wool feels soooo good to hand stitch through.
I love to use felted wool. I have made an applique wallhanging. I also do rug hooking, table runners, pin cushions, and needle cases. They all make wonderful gifts or to sell at your local quilt show. What wonderful colors these packs are.
I'd like to make a storybook for my nieces…using embroidery, felting and buttons. I'd tie it up with a bow and give it to them for christmas…
Oh I forgot, CT Pub. has a great book of flowers that I have and these packs could be used for a bouquet.
I’d embellish a wool melton coat I’m making. I’ve used wool felt before as appliques on traditional Eskimo parkas, and maybe I’d use some for that too. thanks for the chance to win and play with wool!
Oh, my goodness, how long it has been since I have seen felt made of wool! As a youngster, I made hats of wool felt. Now I would likely make purse accessories, ipod pouches, etc.
But part of the creative process calls for knowing the material. I think I would have to get acquainted before deciding a direction.
I’d like to make a blanket/throw!
I remember seeing pictures of wool flowers at a quilt show recently. They looked fabulous. I’d like to give them a try. Thanks!
Whew hew, I would definitely make some ornaments for our tree with the wool felt. Happy holidays!

or at least my table….
I'd like to make Christmas tree ornaments and pin cushions for gifts.
I would make a nice warm winter pea coat.
I love wool felt! It’s probably my favorite thing to work with. I made a huge advent calendar last year made entirely with wool felt and I just love it. It’s really wonderful for handwork and I use it for embroidery a lot. In my current “want to do” list, I’d probably use it to make a felt mailbox pretend play set, a cute felt purse in a heart shape from a pattern by Betz White, and actually something for me…I want to embroider a clock for my craft room and I’d use the wool felt to applique the design. I also have two wool felt wall hangings in progress for the holiday that I probably won’t finish until next Christmas!
i have been trying to find some wool felt to make christmas ornaments decorated with sequins and couched yarns for my young nieces and nephews this year. i may be too late to get them done for this christmas, but if i won the beautiful wool felt pictured above, i would certainly have a grand early start for next christmas!! woo-hoo
I’m just starting to make some wool potholders from recycled sweaters and would use these to add some decoration!
Would love to try some softies out of this. Great giveaway.
Wow! The possibilities for wool felt are limited. I do a LOT of knitting and wouldn’t this look lovely on the back of mittens or decorating a hat? I am in!

I will make stuff for my kids. Learning Toys like felt food and more. I’ve been looking up felt projects lately, maybe I’ll come across some more ideas!
I would love to try my hand at making penny rugs (table toppers)
Funny how this is the prize right now. I just downloaded a pattern to make some woolfelt owl ornamnets. I was thinking it would be nice to make one for each of the grandchildren visiting this Christmas. I went to the craft section of our rinky dink store and found limited packages of colored felt..and it wasn’t wool felt it’s polyester; so I don’t know that it’ll work up well or rip. If it doesn’t work, I’m going to wait to win this stuff and do them up right for NEXT Christmas!
I was just in a yarn shop that had all kinds of creatures about their shelves and tables. It gave me the idea of making lots of creatures out of the felt and crocheting hats, tails or other body parts to attach. Also, I’d like to do a Tree of Life applique with different color leaves. I’d also like to make the little scrappy do leftovers into a new fabric by fusing onto webbing. Maybe a neat little clutch would come out of it.
oh my goodness……These are absolutely delicious. If I were lucky enough to call them mine I would create an original design that I would applique to showcase those gorgeous colours.
Hope I can sew while keeping my fingers crossed :-)
those bright colours would be ideal to make flowers in summer landscapes, 3d birds and flowers or brooches with my current craze of using metallic freestyle embroidery over it for texture..thanks for the opportunity to win them
I used felt for years, but have never gotten a chance to use their new wool felt. I would love to make penny rugs with it.
Debbie
Beautiful, I’ve been working with some wool and these would make a nice addition. I’ve been making dresden plates with wool backs, makes a lovely table topper. So I’d probably make one for me since I’ve made everyone else one. Thanks for the chance to win.

These are beautiful! I would love to try to make a penny rug or candle mat. I’ve seen them and think they are very cute.
I’d use some of the felt to back some improvisational needlepoint and other pieces to make painted and stitched journal covers.
I would make a story quilt, they are so much fun especially when you tell a story about a family member.
I would make ornaments and gift tags but what I would really love to do with it is play around with appliquéing shapes on a quilt border with the wool/felt.
I have been wanting to try this for awhile and this would give me that opportunity to do that.
thanks
Kathie
I will make whimsical dolls and puppies for next year’s Christmas gift stash!

I remember this stuff!! Yeah, my mom used to get this and make us slippers out of it. also, because floors were waxed in those days, we could for one day only, run and slide through the house, wearing these slippers and polish the floors…

I’ve had penny rugs on my mind for a while now, so that is one thing. Plus I’ve seen all kinds of patterns and tutorials for felt pillows and bags. Looks like there is no end of things I could do if I won these. Thanks so much for having the giveaway! Merry Christmas!
I would use them along side my favorite cottons for a textured quilt with lots of beautiful woolen applique!
