Blogger’s Quilt Festival

sidebarlogoPark City Girl’s Blogger’s Quilt Festival is back and with over 500 participants it’s one of the best online showcases of quilts. To participate, all you have to do is write a post on your own blog that tells the story of a quilt you’ve made, link back to Park City Girl’s blog post about the Festival, and add yourself to the roster there. You can also add images of your quilt to the Group Pool on Flickr so it will be included in the Blogger’s Quilt Festival gallery.

Browsing through all the blog entries and the group pool on Flickr might take me months but I’m so excited!  The quilts are so beautiful and all very different. If you are looking for some quilting inspiration, the Blogger’s Quilt Festival should be your destination!

Fabric Art Collage Project and Creative Textile Tool Giveaway

26032501creativetextiletool.1Being a mixed media artist, I am always looking for ways to add texture and dimension to my work.  While writing Fabric Art Collage I experimented with many techniques and materials.  One of those experiments resulted in hot stamping painted fast2fuse with the Creative Textile Tool by Walnut Hollow.

The Creative Textile Tool has many attributes.  I like that you can hot stamp designs, use it to cut synthetics (such as Lutradur), etch and emboss onto fabrics such as velvet, cut stencils, and transfer laser images.  I continue to find new ways to use it in my work. And I have a great opportunity for one lucky reader to do the same! Leave a comment below briefly describing a project you’d be inspired to make with the Creative Textile Tool by 9am PST on Monday 10/12/09, and  you could be the one lucky commenter chosen at random to receive their very own Creative Textile Tool from Walnut Hollow!  Good luck!

The project below incorporates the Creative Textile Tool and many of my favorite techniques.  Check out Fabric Art Collage for more ways to use hot tools. Continue Reading…

Weekly Giveaway Winner!

This week, random luck has landed upon Dee Motto!  Dee will enjoy a copy of Cozy Modern Quilts by Kim Schaefer.

cozy modern

Thank you to all the readers who left comments here and on Facebook.  There seems to be a shifting mode occurring out there as we transition into autumn with plenty of sewing, cooking, raking and sidling up to the fireside with a warming beverage in hand.  Humans are similar to wildlife I suppose.  Whether it’s the colors, smells or crisping air, something triggers and we scurry around finishing last of the “warm weather” projects and head for the “indoor” projects.  Love the vision of all you quilters out there folded up in your almost complete summer quilt projects while adding the finishing touches.

For this week only we will be offering a 20% discount off the purchase of Cozy Modern Quilts.  Order by Friday October 16, 2009 by visiting www.ctpub.com or by calling 800-284-1114 and reference discount code WG-10680!

Mary Link’s No-Sew Fabric Crafts for Kids

New C&T author Mary Link has created the perfect way to get your kids involved in fabric crafts with her new book 100+ No-Sew Fabric Crafts for Kids.

10676

This adorable book will provide hours of fun and projects for the little ones in your life. Mary is new to the C&T community so we asked her to share a little about herself and the new book:

I’m always so amazed at how fast the summer whizzes by up here in Minnesota. Now my new book is out and I’m so excited to share some whimsical and fun projects with everyone. I have been working with arts and crafts ever since I was a child and much of my art work is still child-centered. I guess being a mom and a teacher I’m surrounded by the spirited little tykes everyday… what a great source of inspiration! My love of working with no-sew crafting continued all summer as I kept finding more and more cute crafts to make using mostly scraps. Two new projects (not in the book!) that I want to share are featured here. Continue Reading…

We held a breakfast meeting this morning with retailers to show them our new Liquitex® Surface Design Center, and one lucky quilt shop in the Philippines won our drawing for a free, fully-loaded rack of fabric-painting goodness. In the evening, we conducted a Business Seminar for shops to learn more about using online tools to promote their classes and increase attendance.

Traffic seemed a little busier today, compared to yesterday. It’s always so nice to see people reconnecting, everyons is so happy to catch up on news since the last show.

Enjoy the pictures, I hope we captured some of the essence and energy of the show so you can feel like you were there!

Quilt Market—Day One!

Well, Saturday was actually Day 2 – on Friday before Market opened, we had a wonderful series of schoolhouse sessions featuring several of our authors, and we gave away some books to lucky customers at each session. We began Saturday with an early morning Take-n-Teach workshop with Beth Ferrier teaching everyone techniques from her new book More! Hand Appliqué by Machine. Then in our booth, we had a full slate of authors giving autographs, showing off their beautiful quilts, and chatting about their books.

We launched our new Liquitex® Surface Design Center complete with amazing painted fabric pieces from our team of Surface Design Center Ambassadors. In January, quilt shops around the country will have this handy rack of acrylic paints, inks and mediums – making it easy for quilters and fabric artists to get everything in one place!

Visit our Flickr page for plenty of pictures of our authors, our staff, customers, and some of the fun booths and products on display. So many new fabrics, patterns, books, notions, gadgets and lots of new designers on the scene too. I only got through about half the floor today….I’ll have more to share tomorrow!

Here’s a video tour of booth – I must say, our set-up team did a fabulous job making it look so spiffy!
