In celebration of their awesome new line of rulers and cutting templates Simplicity® Studio, our friends at Simplicity have given us some great blog candy for a big blog giveaway! The excitement doesn’t end here though, as we have something else to celebrate: Simplicity’s awesome new and improved website!
When you head over to the new Simplicity site, you’ll be happy to see all the new features and resources they have to offer. The Idea Exchange has dozens of tips on everything from sewing to quilting, knitting, and crochet. The Simplicity Classroom has sewing lessons, free projects, and a bunch of downloadable resources to help you with your creations. A beautiful new design and user friendly interface are the icing on the cake over at Simplicity. Congratulations Simplicity and thank you!
In the way of blog giveaway goods, we have Simpli-EZ Rule “standard” cutting rulers in user-friendly sizes (4 1/2″ x 4 1/2″square, 6 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ square, 9 1/2″ x 9 1/2″ square, 6 1/2″ x 12 1/2″ rectangle, and 6 1/2″ x 24″ rectangle) and there are some “fancier” ones that I’ll describe later.
The first thing I noticed about them all is how easy to read the printed numbers are. The acrylic is clear and will work well on both light and dark fabrics.
The “standard” rulers even have cutting numbers for left-and right-handers! And these are printed in
different colors (red for lefties and black for righties) so there’ll be no confusion as to which end you’re measuring from. (I have cut incorrectly because I forgot which end was which before!)
Another feature that will be helpful is having the eighths marked with the full number (2 3/8″, 2 5/8″, 2 7/8″ etc). No more counting off the inches to see where I am on the ruler. The eighths are also marked in several places down the length of the ruler and are close enough for me to line up both ends of even a small strip of fabric.
As for the “fancy” rulers, there are triangle shapes with easy-to-understand instructions and a suggested block to make from each one. These range from 30 degree triangles to 45 degrees on up to 127 degrees for a very thin triangle! There is a bias ruler for easily cutting bias strips. All you’ve got to do is line up the edge with the straight of grain and cut. It’s long (28″), too, but folds for easy storage. One more ruler is the Flip N Set. It cuts the side and corner setting triangles for blocks that are set on point. No math for me to do anymore. Simple and easy cutting for blocks up to 16″ finished.
Last but not least are my favorites—templates to make the Double Wedding
Ring block. (This is a quilt I’ve always intended to make.) The template packaging includes photos detailing how to use the templates to make the blocks and an illustration showing how to put the blocks together into a quilt.
All-in-all, lots of fun and exciting possibilities for accurate measuring and simplified quilt construction.
To be in the running for Simplicity Studio goodies, leave a comment telling us what it is you love about Simplicity. Six lucky people will win a pair of rulers or templates. Comments will be closed at 9am PST on Monday, 8/31/09. Good luck!

I love all the variety of new Simlicity rulers. Can’t wait to start collecting.
I have used Simplicity patterns for almost 40 years, and the instructions are clear and concise.
The name “Simplicity” brings back memories of pinning paper patterns on my Mum’s diningroom table!
I like how Simplicity continually stays innovative. Love looking at and playing with all their tools.
Thanks for the link to the site. Can’t wait to try some of the cool tools.

The only Simplicity I’ve ever used was their patterns. It would be fun to win and try one of these
I’ve always loved Simplicity patterns, but I’ve recently tried their notions – their bias tape maker and rotary cutter are fabulous!
Simplicity… well it is just that, I have always found Simplicity easy to use and easy to find. Spells it out for me.
These new rulers look interesting, I sure wouldn’t mind a chance to try them out.
I love the new site and am excited about the classroom.
Best to the Simplicity people [whose newsletter I have been getting for ages].
These will be a great addition to notions needed
I haven’t used any simplicity studio products but they look great.

Ooh count me in! What do I love about Simplicity? I grew up on Simplicity – the clothing patterns, making stuffed animals. I really like the variety, and the confidence the patterns give me to try out new things.
I have used Simplicity patterns for over 40 years. The rulers look great. I like the black numbers, they are easy to see
The half- and quarter-square triangle rulers look interesting.
I have used Simplicity patterns for over 20 years… I have many of their sewing notions in my sewing room. I couldn’t imagine crafting/sewing without Simplicity.
A quilter can never have too many rulers’
I have always loved Simplicity products, especially clothing patterns. We’ve used Simplicity for generations – mom, grandmother, me. And, these rulers sound great!
I love that Simplicity products are just that…simple…it doesn’t take rocket science to figure out; no instructions to store for future reference and then lose…thanks
I’ve always loved simplicity patterns, they are what it says on the front Simplicity itself! I’d love one of those fancy triangle rulers.
I need a new standard ruler and I will look for a Simplicity one! Love that the numbers measure from both sides! That’s a mistake I’ve made before and hope not to again.
I have used Simplicity patterns ever since I learned to sew in High School. I am amazed at their new website. So creative, and helpful. Thanks for this great giveaway. I know the rulers will be just as simple to use as Simplicity has always been with their other products.
This new line of rulers looks great. It will be wonderful to have a full set of rulers out by the same company. So often the Odd Shaped ones don’t quite seem to ’size’ up making for glaring cutting problems.
The layout is nice. I could actually find something on this website!
I just love the Simplicity patterns. Really easy to use! Thanks for the chance to win!
Simplicity patterns are pretty easy to use and if you need help, they’re a phone call away. I also love the website & the free projects.
WoW I don;t get th the mainland often (live on an island) and I am not sure that I have even seen this new Simplicity line yet. I am ruler junkie too ….have to go have a look and maybe win one !!
I have used Simplicity patterns for about 50 years but haven’t had a chance to try their rulers. I’d love the opportunity!
These rulers look great. Something that can be used by both a lefty and righty. I have bought some rules that just don’t do the trick, but these I think will.
Love the patterns. The new site is attractive and comprehensive. Adore the sewing electronic accessories. I’d be making bias tape all day long if I had that tool! LOL!
Those new rulers are great.
What I love about Simplicity? Well, from what you’ve written about these rulers…. My goodness – it sounds so easy!
Tks for considering me, in your contest!
Rosa
I really like their patterns, but the new website is pretty awesome, too. I must go explore!
I woud have to say that the templates make things easy to create. I actually am saving up for the triangles template for my mixed media art…see not just for fabric. :) Will tweet this I think it’s a great product and great prize.
From what I see whats not to love, they look so easy to use & there is a nice variety of sizes!
I have used Simplicity patterns with confidence for years. I have never tried their rulers, but they sound wonderful.
What I love the most is their website! Not only can you find any sewing related notion you want, but it’s an interactive website where they have projects, videos and lessons. You could spend a lot of time there and not buy a thing! But of course it’s also a good place to shop with competitive prices.
looks like they’ve really thought rulers through – can’t wait to see them!
Like so many have commented, I have used Simplicity patterns since my early sewing days. I like the numbering on their rulers and would love to add more to my collection. Thanks. Kathie L from Allentown
I’ve never used Simplicity rulers before, so I’m eager to learn how different they are from other rulers I’ve used. Sound like a lot of good ideas!
Simplicity is a name to be trusted! I would love a set of rulers, they sound wonderful! (I am left-handed and do find other rulers difficult, these sound very easy to use!)
I have been a Simplicity fan for almost 40 years! I love their patterns and appreciate their efforts to branch out with other great sewing accessories. I would love to win their acrylic rulers…a Simplicity girl can’t have too many!
Good rulers are a must, I have to say that I have never heard of Simplicity rulers but they look great and I would love to try them.

I grew up with Simplicity. Their patterns have always been the easiest to understand for me. Haven’t tried their rulers, didn’t know they made them, but they look interesting. So, why not. I wonder what stores have them?
Love the variety and how easy it is use their products
Simplicity rulers make my life, well, simpler. I love them.
I love the new Simplicity website! These rulers sound great – I’m always losing my place, so the full numbers will be helpful.
Simplicity has been a fave of mine as long as I have been sewing! I started back in the stone ages according to my childen-LOL, Jr High!! I use their patterns and their notions and love them all!!
my first pattern was simplicity -
almost 50 years ago (hate to say)
it’s fun seeing the ‘old styles’ come back!
-keep up the good work…
love teaching my neighbor’s daughter how to quilt… rather than ‘give’ her a present, I told her I would teach her to make her own…
I showed her the free project page on your web site – she loved the recycle, renovate, renew project… hope ‘we’ win!!
I still have Simplicity patterns marked $.65…and one of my favorite patterns for my granddaughter is one that my grandmother used for me!! Simplicity is just proving again that they are timeless!
I’ve never used simplicity rulers but am interested in trying them.
I only know of their patterns but I’ve never used anything from Simplicity.
I would love to give the Simplicity rulers a try though.
;o)
Ooh, those are nice rulers. I am a new quilter and this would be an nice addition to my collection. Thank you for the nice give-away.
As a quilt designer, these new rulers seem as if they would be very helpful in speeding up my cutting process. I especially like the idea of the dwr templates. That is one quilt I have always wanted to make for myself.
I love the idea of having the numbering in different colors. I sometimes get confused with the numbers going both directions.
