I came across this Project by Angela Daniels in Board Book Play and thought how perfect for Summer. My kids love anything nature related and are continually collecting various rocks, bugs, plants, you name it. These treasures inevitably end up on the car floor, bottom of a bag, or crushed in a pocket. Even if that butterfly wing successfully makes it to a shelf you know it’s a gonner.
The following project using the Ready-to-Go!® Blank Board Book 3″ x 3” would offer them a perfect take along place to safely keep and show their finds.

Here’s how Angela made hers…
S U P P L I E S :
- 3” x 3” Create & Treasure® Ready-To-Go!® Blank Board Book, white (C&T Publications)
- Patterned papers: 12” x 12”, Playful Wide Rule, Playful Palette, Playful Petite Pop (KI Memories)
- Playful Wisdom Wise Words die cuts (KI Memories)
- Salsa Script Expressionz rub-ons (Junkitz)
- Photo of child
- Household twine, red
- Button
- Mini Glue Dots (Stampin’ Up!)
- Clear tape
- Adhesive, mixed media
- Large square punch (Stampin’ Up!)
- Small acrylic bead box
- Pencil
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Trace the front and back covers of the Board Book onto a piece of Playful Wide Rule patterned paper and then cut the sheet large enough to cover the entire outside of the book. Apply using a mixed-media glue.
- Using rub-on letters, spell the title on the front cover.
- Tie a piece of twine through the button and paste to the front cover with a Glue Dot.
- Run another piece of the twine through the spine of the book and tie it at the top to give the spine some interest and dimension.
- Using a large square punch, punch a square opening through the paper-covered front cover. Be sure that the window you punch will be large enough for the acrylic box to fit through.
- After covering the inside pages with other decorative papers, punch square openings into the two middle pages. Glue these two pages together to create dimension inside the book. There is no need to cover the pages that will be glued together.
- Add a small quotation to the first page, applying it with mixedmedia glue.
- Using a small piece of clear tape, affix the small photo of child to the inside lid of the acrylic box.
- To affix the acrylic box to the book, attach small slices of Glue Dots to the bottom edge of the acrylic box (covering as much of the edge as you can for stability) and then position the box and press firmly to make it stick. The book should open and close easily. The acrylic box will fit through the windows that you have cut into the cover and inside pages.
- Fill the niche you’ve created with small treasures.

That sounds and looks like a very creative project for children to cap off the summers end. Thanks for sharing.
That is super cute, thanks for sharing!!
Hi Beverly! Thank you for your nice comment on my project. The fun thing is, it's easy to add these little treasure boxes to any of the Blank Board book shapes. I was thinking that my little girl would probably like one too (now that my son has one) but for her, I'm thinking of adding a little treasure box window to the 3-D Flower C & T Blank Board book. =)
