Weekly Giveaway – Quilter’s Freezer Paper Sheets

20107These aren’t for baking!  Although they are a hot little item.  Gone are the days of using an elbow, knee and possibly a chin to hold down and cut that unruly roll of freezer paper to just the right size.  If you’re familiar with the many uses of freezer paper you will be happy to know that this week’s giveaway is Quilter’s Freezer Paper Sheets.   This stuff is awesome for piecing, applique, printing patterns and templates or simply stabilizing fabric for ink-jet printing.  The beauty of these sheets are they’re perfectly cut to 8 1/2″ x 11″, reusable and they are flat, flat flat.

For your chance to win a package of 30 sheets, leave a comment here or on Facebook by August 17, 2009, and tell us about a project or technique where freezer paper was the key to success, or how you think you might use it in the future. We will randomly (random.com) pick and announce the winner Monday.  Good Luck!

By the way, you actually can use it for baking if a neatly aligned pan is your thing.  Mmm can taste those cookies already!

Comments will be closed at 9am PST on Monday 8/17/09

I'd use it for a Ricky Tims style quilt using gradations with long sharp points.

I made a pillow pattern using it. I think it's great for odd shapes and applique patterns. I didn't know you could use it in baking! TFS

I love this stuff – so much easier than a big roll of freezer paper! I use it for hand applique – I use two layers of freezer paper as a template when I use starch to turn under my seams.

I use freezer paper for my needle turn applique. I'm looking forward to trying out this "new" freezer paper for a Ricky Tims style Rhapsody!

I used freezer paper to create learning placemats for my kids. This way they will know how to properly set a table. My next project to work with freezer paper will be a fruit of the spirit quilt with applique fruit pieces.

I use it all the time for patterns, as a resist when painting fabric and as a pressing sheet.

Love this freezer paper and it's always sold out, much to my constant dismay.

I haven't used it, but I know I have to finish a dragon quilt surrounded by fire lilies (complete with a winding vine and leaves all applique) and I've been trying to figure out how to do this. Must go quilt now! LOL, kinda behind on this, it's for my daughter and I need finished it. I think I bit off more than I can chew.

I haven't heard of it! I'll do some googling and see what I come up with.

I love it for applique – also used it to make a stained glass window style pieced vest. Great stuff!

I just used freezer paper to paper piece "compass" corners for a wallhanging I am making for a quilters' challenge. There is no way all those skinny points would still exist if it weren't for the freezer paper method!

I want to learn how to applique and heard using freezer paper was very helpful in making and holding the shape of your work. The big problem is I can not find either the sheets or rolls of it anywhere where can I find it? I was told it comes on a roll which would be good for making large pieces. Help anyone???

I just bought my first package of these sheets and I love, love, love them. Zip them through the printer and instant applique templates!

I've used freezer paper for printing on fabric, but haven't tried printing right on the freezer paper yet. Gotta try that!

I’m working with freezer paper right now to help me starch down the perfect curve for applique. I’ve never used the packaged freezer paper – I’m a real cheapskate until I find out a product really DOES work better!

I’d so love to try this…I love to use freezer paper for applique and for the hexagons in my grandmother’s flower garden blocks…I’ve been cutting sheets from the large roll to fit my printer…and it’s not very fun or easy!

  25. Posted August 11, 2009 at 10:40 am | Permalink

I used freezer paper when prepping my signature blocks for my signature quilt for my wedding. Instead of a signature book, I’m making a signature quilt. I didn’t know who was going to sign individually and who would sign as a family, so I didn’t want to piece the quilt before the wedding and have too many blank spaces or run out of room. To make sure guests followed the 1/4″ rule, I put freezer paper on the back of the blocks in the area where the guests could write. This reinforced the 1/4″ guideline.

I am learning to raw edge applique while doing a William Morris quilt. Yikes! Some of the pieces are quite small. I giggle each time I struggle to cut out small pieces from that enormous piece of freezer paper. I think that having pre-cut sheets would be such a wonderful treat. Barb R =!=

Oh I didn’t know that these sheets were available!! I’m currently doing an applique project, it’s a big queen size quilt. I have it about 1/2 way finished, and now I realize that I get crisp neat lines when using freezer paper. I only have about 160 more flowers, and 84 mores leaves to go. How convenient it would be to have sheets of paper right there handy. I would LOVE to win. Thanks for telling me about the product, I’ll ask for it at my local quilt shop.

  36. Posted August 11, 2009 at 1:19 pm | Permalink

These are neat! I would like to iron them onto fabric and then run it through the printer! Wouldn’t that be cool, no curling freezer paper! Thanks for the chance to win!

Freezer paper is great for making your own labels, copying templates and making something similar to a memory quilt. I love freezer paper.

I’d love some to try running some fabric through my ink-jet printer! I’ve mostly used freezer paper to piece the ‘branches’ of my tree quilts to the ‘background’.

  43. Posted August 12, 2009 at 9:50 am | Permalink

Entry from Jeanne Carey: My second quilt was what I called a memory quilt because it was photos of my children growing up. I took a two hour class on making my own photo paper because I made so many mistakes that the premade sheets cost was growing rapidly. I used freezer paper to back my fabric. I actually liked the homemade fabric better because it was softer. I even used the technique to create my own fabric for a border when I could not find a fabric anywhere that had dancing chickens on it.

I was taking a class on using one point perspective for making a landscape quilt where the landscape looks as if it is far away – with the borders looking like they are moving toward you. If I had not had freezor paper to use, I never would have been able to make that quilt!

I use freezerpaper for my DJ and NI quilts, mini quilts, labelwriting, etc. it makes my patching very accurate and stabelize the fabric for the label if I write on it.
Please count me in for the give away, I can always use more freezerpaper, and I would love to try yours out.
    ;o)
(pssst, are you sure? baking with freezer(!?)paper?)

I’ve got the how-to book, I’ve got the magic elixir in a bottle, I’ve got the muslin, I’ve got the printer, I’ve got everything I think I’ll need to try printing on fabric except all I have is freezer paper on a roll. Roll would be a verb, as in… it’s rolling into itself. Wish someone would come up with flat, paper-sized, precut packages of freezer paper. *grin*

About a year ago I needed some freezer paper for an applique project I was working on. In the store where I was shopping (they sold in bulk) was his HUGE package (roll) of freezer paper (no smaller ones) so I threw it in my cart, not wanting to go looking at another store and needing it right away. I thought I would never in my lifetime use that roll up, BUT I see now that it’s almost time to go shopping again for freezer paper. I would love to try the sheets…thanks for the opportunity.
