Weekly Giveaway: Fantastiques

fantastiquesThese aren’t your average paperdolls!  This weeks giveaway is Fantastiques Whimsies by Trice Boerens. Consider them the upgraded, artful, sophisticated, hip and humorous, 21st century version.  You can mix and match 27 posable characters with coordinating torsos or get creative and use found objects.  I’ve seen them used on matchbooks, envelopes, photos, blank board books, etc. Check out this chessboard created by Lauren Nwachukwu.

Adults and kids alike will get a kick out of them. Included are angels, animals, geishas and a sumo wrestler, suns and flowers, jesters and a knave, pirates, robots and a robot dog, skeletons and a scarecrow, a Vicotrian gentleman and a scholar. As you can see a huge assortment with plenty of character. They pop out of their pages and bring a splash of life to any object or project.

I don’t know if this is a ‘found’ object, but I have been keeping my empty Aurifil plastic spools and have several. After seeing the Chess game… well, my imagination starts to work.

I have been collecting fake credit cards (junk mail, credit card solicitations) and blank keys (same junk mail) that are sent to us for use one day. Seems like this might be perfect. Also my husband drinks something that comes wrapped in a bright heavy foil (italian soda??) those are saved also for one day……

These look so fun! I have no idea what I’d use with them…maybe some cds colored up with alcohol inks. Starbucks frappuccino bottles filled with hershey’s kisses and given to friends…

I have a bunch of old silverware that I need to repurpose. Might make good bodies for these babies.

I plan to create two projects: 1. using old bridge tallies; 2. using my Grandma’s buttons & other notions from her antique sewing cabinet.

I have put together a collection of old flower print hankies and I picked up some small keys , less than an inch long, that have words etched on them. I would like to use these somehow.

Okay, I like the idea of this! WHo would get a laugh out of a little box of treats festooned with an articulated paper doll? Fun!

I LOVE this idea. Am a paper doll lover, anyway, and these dancing figures look like so much fun to make!

Love your versions. In the past I’ve used bottle caps, thread spools, wood blocks, old newspaper and cardboard to make dolls. I’d love to win to spark my wimsy some more!!

I have a couple of hundred CD’s I found at a thrift store. Old AOL trial CD’s. Anyway, I’ve used them to make crocheted coasters and I have a lot left to use for SOMETHING! ALSO, the first thing I’d try using would be the tags from Margaux’s collar…my 9-year old mix-breed dog. She died on July 3.

How fun! I might like to try something like this with some random playing cards.

Megan, thanks for dropping by my blog and for your lovely comment!

The found object I would turn into a Fantastique is a Bingo card of course (one of my favourite items to use in my art work). I have a paper doll in my published works on my picturetrail http://www.picturetrail.com/cindymcmath that was published in Somerset Studio awhile back – the body was a vintage playing card, which was fun to work with too.

these would make a great paper doll chain garland across the mantle, and I have a ton of odd bits of ephemera, mostly playing cards collected here and there, that would likely be what they would end up on. I’m in for the book (when I was a kid, I loved those little pop-out, fold and insert tab, etc books…in particular, I remember a pioneer “wooden” fort with Indians and Calvary)

Ohh, I might be able to use some of the Lego’s all over my house for this fun project!

    Thanks

How cute! I would use them on my note cards I mail to family to put smiles on everyone’s face! I could also see using them on thread spools for little gifts to other sewing lovers.

Thanks for letting me enter. I am now going to follow this blog regularly.

How fun! I would use them on special Hi note cards I send to my family members. Also, would use them on new spools of thread to give a smile to some of my sewing friends.

Thanks for a chance to win.

Not a found object, but wouldn’t it be so cool to make party favors – of the person whose birthday you are celebrating! Or for a bridal shower – of the bride or groom! Or for class reunions! The list goes on. !!!

I just learned to make glass jewelry. I think I’d try to include some of that. What fun.
