- White cotton sateen: 1 rectangle 10” x 10”
- Shiny silver fabric: 1 square 5” x 5”
- Chocolate brown cotton: 1 rectangle 5” x 3”
- Backing fabric: 1 rectangle 10” x 12 1/2”
- White batting: 1 rectangle 6” x 6”
- fast2fuse Double-Sided Fusible Stiff Interfacing: 1 rectangle 10” x 12 1/2”
- White medium rickrack: 1 piece 10”
- Flat lace for edging: 1 1/2 yards
- Wonder-Under: 1 rectangle 10” x 15”
- Assorted beads or sequins
- 2 plastic rings: 1/2” diameter (for hanging)
Instructions
1. Fuse Wonder-Under to back of white, silver, and chocolate brown fabric pieces according to manufacturer’s instructions.
2. Cut the following, using the patterns provided. (Click here to download the PDF.)
- White fabric: cake plate and plate stand
- Silver fabric: cupcake holder
- Chocolate brown fabric: cake
- Batting: frosting; cut 2.
3. Sew the pink rectangle to the polka dot rectangle to make a rectangle 10” x 12 1/2”. Press the seam to 1 side.
4. Place the white plate stand appliqué in position on the polka dot and pink rectangle, and fuse in place.
5. Place the cake plate appliqué in position on the stand. Slide the rickrack under the lower edge of cake plate, trim the excess, and fuse the plate to the background. Stitch lower edge, including rickrack, in place by machine.
6. Place the cupcake holder appliqué on the cake plate, and position the cake appliqué at top of cupcake holder, sliding the bottom edge of the cake under the top of the holder. Fuse both in place.
7. Place the frosting appliqués on the cake. Stitch by hand or machine to hold loosely in place.
8. Embellish the frosting with beads or sequins.
9. Fuse the backing to one side of the fast2fuse; use a nonstick cloth to protect the ironing board.
10. Fuse the completed front to the fast2fuse, avoiding the frosting area.
11. Quilt if desired.
12. Finish by stitching flat lace around the outside edge. Hand sew plastic rings to the top corners on the back for hanging.
