The Three Sisters Mountains in Oregon
Shortly after my fabric dyeing book came out, Jean Wells asked me to come teach at her shop The Stitchin’ Post in Sisters, Oregon. As long as we travel was required, my DH and I decided to make it a vacation/road trip as well.

Our first stop in Oregon was Crater Lake, then we drove up to Sunriver, home of C&T Author Wendy Hill. I had a chance to see Wendy’s studio and some of her work in progress, then Wendy and I visited the High Desert Museum while the DH’s played golf. The High Desert Museum has a living history area with volunteers acting out period roles, including the “grandma” sitting at her quilting frame waiting to teach the young’uns how to quilt “proper.”

Next it was on to Sisters, a delightful little town with a main street that has lots of fascinating shops. The “wild”life in the area is abundant, delighting visitors and irritating the folks who live there. The Three Sisters mountains are often in view and at the end of May were still covered in snow.

The Stitchin’ Post is fabulous—there’s a huge selection of fabrics, notions, patterns, and kits; a section of luscious yarns; and a gift store, Twigs, with unique home and garden accessories.

I taught three classes while I was there: Introduction to Inkjet printing on Fabric, Beginning Photoshop Elements, and Fabric Dyeing. The classroom is great and my classes were well attended. The students were all very enthusiastic—a teacher’s dream.

After we left Sisters, we drove to Corvallis, Oregon to visit author Linda Johansen. I had a chance to see her sewing studio and her dyeing room. We’re both fabric dyers so we swapped some dyeing techniques and she showed me some of her work.

It was a lot of driving, but also a lot of fun and great to see quilting friends that I don’t get to see very often.

What’s a DH? I love the pix of the Sister’s Mountain Range. Lynn, you rock! Can’t wait till you hit the road teaching about our new Surface Design Center.
