I’m just back from an amazing trip to New York where I had the opportunity to attend the opening of Paula Nadelstern’s Kaleidoscope Quilt Exhibit at the American Folk Art Museum.

The Museum of American Folk Art was the venue for this amazing and truly memorable event.

Here's me in front of the Gift Store Nadelstern Tote Bag Display
It’s hard to put into words the pride of seeing one of our author’s works exhibited in such a museum. It’s also pretty thrilling to see our books and products featured in the museum gift store.

Projected Kaleidoscope Images
The exhibit was any artist’s dream come true. The entire first floor of the multi-floor museum was where the opening reception was held. The immense space was filled floor to ceiling with projected kaleidoscope images.

First Level View
Paula Nadelstern’s name, a quilt and series of new blocks were on display on this level as well.

A Busy Opening Night
The opening was very crowded. I talked to the museum director and she was impressed by the number of attendees.

Second floor gallery entrance

Todd Hensley and Family
The exhibit of Kaleidoscope Quilts took up the entire second floor. Photos were not allowed so I only have this entrance shot and a one of the Hensley family who were also at the opening.
Needless to say, the exhibition itself is a MUST-SEE for any quilter or art lover. In addition to the many quilts on display, there is also an impressive collection of gorgeous kaleidoscopes from Paula’s collection. A few of the kaleidoscope makers were also at the show and it was a treat to get some behind-the-scenes information about the art of kaleidoscope making. The exhibition will be going on until September 13, 2009.

Me with Paula
Paula looked beautiful and was truly the star of the show. I felt honored to be invited and have the chance to catch her for a photo together.

Shopping in the Garment District

B&J Fabrics
The next day, I spent the morning going to many of the fabric and trim suppliers on Paula’s list of recommended stops in the Garment District. If you’re in NY City, I highly recommend using the helpful garment guide that Paula provides on her web site.
And, yes, that is one of our very own Nadelstern Kaleidoscope Tote Bags that I’m carrying!

What an awesome opportunity!! To be part and parcel of such an amazing show. You are an artiste in your own right… and I gotta have one of those bags… Is there a website to purchase your products with the kaleidoscope quilt designs?
