Do any of you work in cubicles like a lot of us here at C&T? It’s always interesting to see what people choose to “post” on their cube walls. Wilderness scenes, maps, quilts (of course), stuffed animals, comics . . . .
Inside mine is a conglomeration of stuff. I’ve got two plants. (One of which I just noticed is dead and needs replacing-oops.) There are also pictures of family and friends, shells, a stuffed kitty with a pink nose and gray fur that’s a hand-me-down from when one of our designers was cleaning out her cube, a clock (also a hand-me-down from a co-worker), numerous calendars, and to-do lists, not to mention work papers and books, of course. Believe it or not, that’s only skimming the surface!
There are items that have accumulated over time that have a special meaning to me, too. I have the little alligator in a chair that reminds me of my brother (don’t ask!), the fabric basket block from my dear friend Marcie, the hand-made thank-you note from Sue, a card from Lynne, an angel from Kristi, the watering can from Sara, the bird that reminds me of Diane – a handful of things that bring faces and memories pleasantly to mind throughout the day. I even have a bumper sticker: “My honor student gets pierced at Zebra’s” (REALLY don’t ask about that one!)

Then there’s the “book” stuff: things I’ve been inspired to make by books I’ve worked on. I have a box from Fun with Folded Fabric Boxes by Crystal Mills and Arnold Tubis. I made two when a customer was having trouble making her own. Then I sent her one as an example and kept one for myself! There are African violets from Fresh Felt Flowers by Lynne Farris and a mum from Fast, Fun & Easy Fabric Flowers by Karen Flamme. Super-Simple Creative Costumes inspired me to make a crown as part of a Halloween costume. I have the first yo-yo I ever made for a photo shoot for Patches and Posies by Carol Armstrong! I have blocks that I made when editing Ruth B. McDowell’s Piecing Workshop and a small wall-hanging of a woodpecker from Jette Nielsen’s Feathered Friends.

what a great blog topic! I will be fascinated to see what others have in their cubes. Makes me look around with a fresh eye. . .
My cube has some fun creative stuff too, great post!! I have a gorge journal made by Rebekah Meier (can’t wait for her new “Fabric Art Collage” book in May!), 3 cute fleece dogs made by Sinco, the lovely Quilting Arts calendar, sweet paper flowers made by my crafty pal Kiera, my vintage Cher doll, and an awesome sock monkey from Danielle! Oh and my fab art glass paperweights too.
My cube has a photo of my chinchilla sitting in a fruit bowl, a can of authentic Scottish haggis, and several needle-felted wool vegetables my daughter made me so I wouldn’t feel lonely at work. Hmm, a food theme is emerging.
Haggis?!?!? Christine, you crack me up :)
That same haggis has been in Lisa’s cube and my cube too! ha! speaking of Scottish stuff, I have a “harry coo” doll in my cube – that’s what my aunt in Scotland calls the Scottish Highland Cows – they are really cute. Some of my other favorite pieces of cube decor are the handmade card I received from Kerry’s Alivia and a photo of my first (and greatest) fish Pai-Mei.
You are always sure to find a lot of crumbs in my cube. I have no idea how they end up there :) A snacking monster seems to visit every day.
Among nicknacks and pictures of friends and family too numerous to mention, my cube has The Simpsons Christmas train (need to take that down – d’oh!), a Tony Stewart bobble-head, keychains and shotglasses co-workers brought back from various parts of the world, a picture of Nixon and Elvis in the Oval Office, and a monkey wearing a fez.
