Fabrics Seeking Available Project for Fun & Long-Term Relationship

I’ve had this fabric for years (through 3 different houses!). Until pulling them out to take this photo, I’d never even taken the squares out of their tidy little ziplock bags. (The fabrics are from two Keepsake Quilting collections: Wild Things, forty 10″ squares, and Chicken Parts, sixty 6″ squares.)

What would you do with these fabrics?

What would you do with these fabrics?

I don’t particularly like chickens. Animal prints aren’t necessarily my thing, either. However, something about these colors and textures really attract me. They just haven’t attracted the right project yet. The closest I’ve gotten to something that would work for me (and the fabrics) is a basic square-in-a-square pattern. But it doesn’t seem special enough to cut the now-carrying-way-too-much-pressure Venerable Fabric Collection.

What does a quilter do now?!?

How do you pick the perfect patterns for favorite fabrics?

Ooooo, I love the soft gray and tan zebra prints …..I’m not that big into theme room decor, but some of the softer colors would make a sophisticated baby quilt for a room with an animal/jungle focus.

I wouldn’t be interested in most of those fabrics individually either, but as a set they are really cool. What about animal appliqués, for an I spy quilt?

Chicken parts?? That is hilarious! I do happen to love chickens; we had little banty hens as pets when I was a kid – they lay brown, green and blue eggs! And ever since my grandfather called the annual gathering of myself and my 7 sisters a “Hen Party”, I have been obsessed with chickens. I even designed a cute pattern of an easy 4-patch chicken on point with flip and stitch corners for the beak, feet and comb… very fun! Either of these cute sets would make great Hen Party Chicks!

I feel that something along the lines of scrappy Autumn leaves would be great with those colors or a Bento Box quilt. Can’t wait to see what you finally decide what to do with them.
